Setting aside the order of the Appellate court that had granted Rs 30,000 compensation to a patient who gave birth to child despite undergoing sterilization, the Punjab and Haryana High Court recently held that medical negligence cannot be presumed merely due to the unsuccessful outcome of a surgery.

Further, the HC bench comprising Justice Anil Kshetarpal also reiterated that if there were no allegations that questioned the surgeon's competence or there was no evidence to support claims of negligence, a plea seeking compensation for alleged medical negligence could not succeed.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked the eligible faculties from various Government Medical Colleges to submit their willingness to be associated with the Commission for the task of conducting assessment of medical colleges from time-to-time.

NMC issued this direction to the faculties in view of the fact that MARB will start the inspection process for the Academic Year 2025-2026 in due course for various UG and PG applications.

While considering the plea challenging the selective allocation of NRI quota reservation in medical admission in the State's private medical colleges, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices and sought a response from the authorities in this regard.

Filing the plea, a Bhopal-based doctor alleged that 15% of the seats in the private medical colleges of the State, which are reserved for the NRIs, are being allocated only to eight popular courses and not being evenly distributed.

In an unfortunate incident, five MBBS students were killed after the car they were travelling in collided with a KSRTC bus recently.

Speaking to PTI, the police officials informed that the deceased, who are reportedly MBBS students of a government medical college, have not been identified so far. The accident took place around 10 pm Monday night near Kalarcode.
