Overview
Theophylline- helpful in COVID-19 associated sinus bradycardia
Covid-19 is reportedly causing severe breathing disorders and greatly affects the cardiovascular and pulmonary functioning in the patients. Many measures and treatments are being experimented ever since the pandemic. A short course of oral etophylline and theophylline prolonged-release tablet (150 mg) could be used for treating sinus bradycardia due to COVID-19 in the future, a recent study has suggested.
The findings, published in the Journal of the Association of Physicians of India (JAPI) showed that sinus bradycardia due to COVID-19 is usually transient and responds well to this drug. The researchers further found the drug to be safer than other modalities for the treatment of sinus node dysfunction associated with COVID-19.

Hydrogels- novel technique for glucose delivery
Hypoglycemia is a critical condition that needs immediate attention and monitoring glucose levels is crucial in Diabetic patients. In a new study, published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, the traditional use of glucagon is preferred as a preventive measure than its previous emergency use.
Nature achieves remarkable function from the formation of transient, nonequilibrium materials realized through continuous energy input. The role of enzymes in catalysing chemical transformations to drive such processes, often as part of stimuli-directed signalling governs both material formation and lifetime.
Researchers successfully developed hydrogels that release glucagon into the system, raising glucose levels during hypoglycemia.

Chili peppers in diet lower cardiovascular mortality
Plant-based and Mediterranean diets for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease are advised for quite a time by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA). Studies have reportedly mentioned benefits of chilly in cardiac patients.
A recent study in the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology reported that regular consumption of chili pepper (CP) is related to significantly lower all-cause, cancer, and cardiovascular-related mortalities. Deriving a standardized approach to guide the optimal mode and amount of CP consumption is however difficult based on current literature.
Findings imply that that CP consumption and/or supplementation of one of its bioactive components may provide significant health benefits.

Roundworms tied to Asthma in younger males
Roundworms are commonly mistaken to have more deteriorating effects than benefactories, however it was proved the later by the study published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in the paper «Ascaris exposure associated with lung function, asthma and DNA-methylation in Northern-Europe».
By looking at the exposure to the parasitic roundworm Ascaris lumbricoides/suum in Nothern Europe (Norway, Denmark and Estonia), the study finds that younger men exposed to Ascaris had a striking reduction in lung function and nearly five times higher odds of having asthma compared to the non-exposed. These effects were independent of smoking and other exposures such as house dust mites.
