Shockwave therapy- treatment for chronic prostatitis
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is an efficient treatment for chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) patients, according to a study published in the Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases.
Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) otherwise referred to as shockwave therapy, was first introduced into clinical practice in 1982 for management of urologic conditions. The success of this technology for the treatment of urinary stones quickly made it a first-line, noninvasive, and effective method.

SPECT scan predicts prognosis of HF patients
Cardiac 123I-MIBG SPECT imaging is beneficial in providing prognostic information in nonischemic ADHF patients with HFpEF, according to a study published in the JACC: Cardiovascular Imaging.
Cardiac sympathetic nerve dysfunction assessed by 123I-MIBG imaging is associated with poor outcomes in chronic HF patients with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (HFrEF). However, no information is available on the prognostic value of cardiac 123I-MIBG SPECT imaging in patients with HFpEF.

Tirzepatide helps lower body weight, cardiovascular risk
Tirzepatide is a dual Glucose-dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that is under development for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
A new study by Prof Stefano Del Prato, MD and team has revealed that in people with type 2 diabetes and elevated cardiovascular risk, tirzepatide, showed greater efficacy than glargine in HbA1c reduction with a lower incidence of hypoglycaemia at 52 weeks.

Rebound seizures during rewarming period may be a significant clue for future seizure outcome. Are seizures more likely to occur during rewarming after hypothermia, and are they are associated with abnormal outcomes is yet to be investigated.
A new prespecified cohort study by Dr Lina F. Chalak, MD, MSCS and team revealed that higher odds of electrographic seizure during the rewarming phase after hypothermia was associated with increased risk of death or disability at 2-year follow-up.

Acupuncture helps total knee replacement surgery patients
Patients who have acupuncture during total knee replacement surgery report less pain and need far fewer opioids to manage their discomfort, according to a study being presented at the ANESTHESIOLOGY 2021 annual meeting. Results of the study showed that 65% of patients who received acupuncture during surgery achieved a low-dose or opioid-free postoperative experience, compared to 9% of patients outside of the study.
"Total knee replacements are one of the most common operative procedures in the United States and often very painful, so there's a great need to explore non-opioid pain relief techniques for this type of surgery," said Stephanie Cheng, M.D., DABMA, lead author of the study and assistant attending anesthesiologist at the Hospital for Special Surgery and assistant professor of clinical anesthesiology at Weill Cornell Medicine, both located in New York City. "Acupuncture is extremely safe and can help reduce pain with few unwanted side effects, but it has not been well researched as part of surgical anesthesia."
