Ministry of Health asks states to Nominate Medicos for WHO Fellowship programme, Focus of Doctors in Rural areas, it adds
The letter added that adequate representation should be given to female officers and officers belonging to SC/ST category, noting that past experience shows that the applicants are generally from major cities
Introducing the programme, Shri Lav Aggarwal, Jt secretary stated that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been training doctors and other health professionals under the WHO Fellowship programme, During the past biennia, health professionals or the country have been awarded WHO Fellowship in prestigious institutions within the country and in foreign countries 5 such as USA, UK, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Netherlands, France etc.
Talking about the nominations, the letter noted
Building upon the experience, it has been proposed to send health professionals/ Managers, nurses, radiologist, laboratory technicians and para¬medical staff etc, under the aforesaid Fellowships programme, to various academic/medical institutions of repute in India for courses in various specialities.
"It is requested to kindly forward duly recommended applications of interested officers especially those in the field of Public Health," the letter asked the state departments
However, noting the skewed nominations towards metro doctors, the letter also advised a word of caution
Past experience shows that the applicants are generally from major cities. I would be advisable to provide adequate opportunities to those who have been serving in rural areas sub-divisional district hospitals and have the first-hand experience of public health issues. Similarly, adequate representation should be given to female officers and officers belonging to SC/ST category.
The last date of application August 16th 2019. The general conditions for grant of WHO fellowships 2018-19 may be strictly adhered to while forwarding the applications of the officer's medical professionals.
