The doctor was allegedly under depression as three of her senior colleagues allegedly used to harass her with castiest remarks.
Mumbai: In a tragic incident, a doctor pursuing second-year in MD Gynecology has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her hostel room. According to media reports, the doctor took this drastic step over allegedly being harassed by three of her seniors, who allegedly used to trouble her during working hours, besides, commenting casteist slurs at her.
Following the complaint registered by the mother of the medico, the three accused doctors have been booked under relevant sections of IPC.
The deceased doctor has been identified as a 26-year-old PG medico pursuing MD Gynecology from a well known government-run Hospital in Mumbai.
On the day of the incident, the doctor had finished her duties in the morning and left for her hostel. Late in the evening, the authorities tried to reach her, but could not get through. Afterwards, her roommates and seniors went to check on her. They found the door of her room locked. When no response came from inside after several knocks, they informed the security. It was then she was found hanging, as per media reports.

A doctor from the hospital told the Hindu, "We tried to resuscitate her by administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but she was already in the state of rigor mortis."
The fellow doctors contacted the hospital authorities who then informed the police. After primary investigation, police had registered an accidental death report (ADR) case.
The doctor was allegedly under depression as three of her senior colleagues allegedly used to harass her with castiest remarks.
The brother of the doctor informed the HT that he received a call from her where she was complaining about three senior doctors at the hospital who were harassing her from a long time.
"She alleged that the doctors would not allow her to meet her husband or have food during working hours as she belonged to a lower caste. They also threatened her that she would not be able to complete her MD," he added.
The mother of the deceased alleged that she was being harassed by three of her senior colleagues. Based on the complaint Agripada police registered a case against the trio under section 306 (abetment for suicide) of the Indian penal code (IPC), sections of the SC/ST Atrocities Act, Anti-Ragging Act and Information Technology Act, 2000.
