NCR: Chief MS of Govt Hospital receives extortion call for Rs 2 lakh, files complaint
Ghaziabad: A complaint has been lodged in Ghaziabad police by a Chief Medical Superintendent of a district hospital, who received an extortion call demanding Rs 2 lakh by a man who identified himself as a senior official associated with Kendriya Lok Shikayat.
According to media reports, the Medical Superintendent received a call from an unknown number and the man identified himself as Rana and claimed to be from Central public grievance cell. He allegedly mentioned that he had received a complaint against the doctor from the office of the then Minister of State for External Affairs.
He blackmailed the officer that there was a complaint against him citing serious corruption charges. He demanded around Rs 2 lakh to settle the complaint.

The Medical Superintendent of the Hospital told the TOI, "The caller told me he had received a complaint against me through a letter from the Ghaziabad MP. He told me that the allegations of corruption against me are so serious that I will not get bail from any court. The caller told me that if I needed the case to be settled, I would have to pay Rs 25,000 each to eight government officials."
When the doctor told him that he had done nothing as such to get into the trouble, the man still claimed that he was helping the doctor out of the situation. He asked the doctor to come to Delhi with Rs 50,000 to settle the matter.
The doctor did not go to meet him and rather started inquiring about the complaint the man was talking about.
He got to know that few letterheads from the office of the then Minister of State for External Affairs had gone missing and someone could be misusing them, reports the HT.
On the same day, he received the call again from the unknown number and threatened him of the dire consequences if he does not listen to him.
The doctor after being sure that the caller was blackmailing him, he approached the Ghaziabad police and registered an FIR under IPC sections 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).
The police team is investigating the matter.
