A recent study published in BMC Nephrology examined the relationship between total cholesterol levels and mortality risk in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Contrary to common belief, total cholesterol levels showed a U-shaped association with mortality, suggesting that both high and low levels were associated with increased risks. This finding challenges the traditional understanding of cholesterol's impact on health outcomes and prompts a reevaluation of the optimal range for total cholesterol in PD patients.
