1 medical university, 16 medical and nursing colleges to come up in Haryana, State to have 3,035 MBBS seats by 2025

Chandigarh: The Haryana Government has announced the setting up of a medical university, 16 new medical and 6 further nursing colleges in the state.

The government is also aiming at increasing the number of MBBS seats in medical colleges of the State to 3035 by 2025.

According to a recent government press release, "In order to further strengthen the health facilities, the state government is constantly emphasizing on expansion of health infrastructure. Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya University of Health Sciences is being established at Kutel in Karnal, which will be made functional soon. The University will also have a 750-bed super speciality hospital and research department. Similarly, 9 medical colleges are being set up in the state. Which include, Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Government Medical College at Bhiwani, Government Medical College at Jind, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Government Medical College at Chhayansa, Faridabad, Government Medical College and Hospital at Koriyawas, Narnaul, Government Medical College at Kaithal, Sirsa and Yamunanagar, Gurugram. This includes Government Medical College and Hospital and Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College Phase-II in Karnal. Besides this, AIIMS is also being built in Rewari, which will prove to be a milestone for the health facilities of Haryana."

The Chief Minister had announced the opening of 6 Nursing Colleges in Faridabad, Rewari, Kaithal, Kurukshetra and Panchkula, at a cost of Rs 194 crore. As per the announcement, 85 to 88 percent of the work of these colleges being built in all these districts has been completed and they will be made functional soon.

Besides this, other processes including the purchase of land for the construction of Nursing College building at Safidon, Jind have been completed. Work on this will also start soon.

In the last eight years, the number of medical colleges in Haryana has increased by two-fold. While the total number of MBBS seats in the State has also increased to 1735 from 700 in the year 2014.

All this has become possible because of the regulatory reforms brought in by the Chief Minister since 2014, to till today that Haryana has witnessed a new era of growth in the health sector.

"The Chief Minister firmly believes that in any country or society, the health of people is of utmost importance and while realizing the same, since 2014 Sh. Manohar Lal had certainly made making radical changes in the health services, which not only helped the State Government to successfully combat the COVID-19 Pandemic but has also played a pivotal role in realizing his vision of 'Swasth Haryana', adds the release.

"Sh. Manohar Lal now aims to increase the number of graduate seats in medical colleges of the State to 3035 by 2025. For this, concrete steps are being made for setting up a Medical College in every district," it further mentioned.

Recently Haryana has awarded the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Good Governance Award-2021 for setting up critical care ICUs in medical colleges in the state.

Ayushman Bharat Scheme reach expanded to 22 lakh families

Providing the best health facilities to the citizens of the state is the utmost priority of the State Government and envisaging the same the annual income slab of BPL families has been increased to Rs. 1.80. As per the norms of the Central Government, around 15.50 lakh families in Haryana were covered in this scheme, but as the Haryana government expanded the reach of this scheme, now 22 lakh families of the state will get the benefit of this scheme. All these families will be provided free medical facilities up to Rs 5 lakh under this scheme.
