Eight New medical Colleges in Telangana to commence admission from this year, 2200 additional MBBS Seats available for aspirants
Hyderabad: In a major boost to medical education in Telangana, the State Government has announced that admission in eight new medical colleges in the State will commence from this year.
Along with 1067 MBBS seats through 85 percent reservation in B Category, Telangana will offer more than 2200 additional MBBS seats to the aspirants this year, adds Telangana Today.
The announcement in this regard has come from the State Government on Monday, on the occasion of Durga Ashtami and Saddula Bathukamma.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that in an attempt to ensure that more medical aspirants in Telangana get a chance in the medical colleges in the State, the Government of Telangana has now reserved 85 per cent of Category-B management quota MBBS and BDS seats in minority and non-minority private medical colleges for local students.
Issuing two Government Orders (G.O.) in this regard, the Telangana Government made it clear that from now on only 15 per cent Category-B UG medical and dental seats will remain open for the students outside the State.
In this regard, the Government Order issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department stated, "The registrar of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Telangana has proposed amendments to the rules of admissions into MBBS and BDS courses under management quota. The state government after careful examination of the matter has decided to amend the Telangana unaided non-minority professional institutions (Regulations of Admissions into Undergraduate Medical and Dental Professional Courses) Rules, 2007."
"In the said rules, only 15% of B Category seats in private medical colleges in Telangana will be open to candidates from all over the country," it added.
With the implementation of this new rule, the medical aspirants in Telangana will be able to avail 1, 068 additional Category-B MBBS seats in all 24 private medical colleges in Telangana.
As per the latest media report by Telangana Today, now the State Government has announced that admission in eight new medical colleges in Telangana will commence admission from this year and with this, additional 1200 MBBS seats will be added to the State's seat matrix. Therefore, combining the Category B seats with the MBBS seats in the eight new medical colleges, more than 2, 200 additional MBBS seats will be available for the Telangana medical aspirants from this academic year.
Confirming this, the State Health Minister T Harish Rao told the daily, "We will start admissions in 8 new medical colleges from this year, which will add 1200 seats. Combined with the 1067 additional MBBS seats through 85 percent reservation in B category medical seats in private medical colleges, over 2,200 medical seats will be available from this year. The State Health Minister further informed the media on Monday that until 2014, there were only three medical colleges in Telangana. However, the number was increased to 17 after the formation of Telangana State and very soon 33 medical colleges will be there in all the districts of the State, adds Ind Today.
