Hyderabad: With 6,040 MBBS seats, Telangana has secured the sixth position among the States with maximum number of seats offering MBBS admission. Although the journey to the first position is still a long way, unlike other States, Telangana has 19 MBBS seats per one lakh population.
The data in this regard has been revealed by the State Health Minister T Harish Rao, who claimed that the huge increase of MBBS seats is helping students from economically weaker sections for realising their dream of becoming a doctor. In fact, a student with the rank of 8,78,200 has also been allotted a seat in the State
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that an additional 1,200 MBBS seats were added to the seat matrix of Telangana with the inauguration of eight new government medical colleges in eight districts of the State.
Established at a cost of Rs 4,080 crore, these medical colleges have been set up in Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Wanaparthy, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool and Ramagundam.
