44 Doctors for Submit Fake Certificates for PG Medical Admissions under NRI Quota, Committee to take action
Chennai: Unveiling a postgraduate medical admission scam in Tamil Nadu, the Directorate of Medical Education found during verification by the selection committee that at least 44 doctors have faked their certificates in their applications for admission under the non-resident Indian (NRI) quota.
TOI has reported that half a dozen embassies/consulates of countries, including those in the US, Dubai, Singapore, Australia, and Kuwait, recently confirmed the "ingenuity" of certificates submitted by these candidates.
Back in October, the postgraduate committee published a list showing that 221 of the 446 (nearly 50%) candidates were ineligible for PG admission. Either, candidates had not submitted adequate documents, or because they were ineligible because of the errors in submission. As per the Daily, the officials on Monday said that the number of ineligible candidates was reduced from 221 to 114 after many of these candidates had submitted the relevant documents.

Commenting on the matter, the Secretary of the Selection Committee Dr. P Arunalatha told the Times of India, "While some candidates were allowed to submit documents, the candidature of 44 doctors was declared invalid."
She added, "We will act against everyone who have produced fake certificates. We asked for legal opinion."
As per the officials, more than 20 students faked consulate certificates in 2023. Speaking about this, the former President of the Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) said, "If doctors forge certificates, it amounts to unethical practice. They should be debarred."
Further, senior officials informed that at least five students applied for admission under the service quota even though they are serving their bond period. Referring to these instances, a senior official at DME said, "These candidates have also been made ineligible."
This comes at a time when only two days ago, the undergraduate committee announced its decision to file a police complaint and initial legal action against six candidates for submitting fake certificates from at least four consulates.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that taking action against NEET candidates who submitted fake certificates to secure MBBS admission under the NRI quota, the CENTAC Puducherry cancelled three such applications for admissions.
Issuing a Press Release in this regard, the counselling body stated, "Based on the request raised by CENTAC for authentication of certificates furnished by candidates claiming seat under NRI Quota, replies are being received from various Embassies."
