842 MD Forensic Medicine seats, 128 in Karnataka, 99 in Maharashtra: NMC PG seat matrix 2026-27

New Delhi: A total of 842 postgraduate medical seats in MD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine are available across various States and Union Territories for the academic year 2026-27, according to the latest seat matrix released by the National Medical Commission.
The seats are distributed across 30 states/Union Territories, and Karnataka has the highest number of seats in the speciality, with 128, followed by Maharashtra with 99 seats and Rajasthan with 66 seats. The seats are distributed across government and private medical colleges and other institutions across the country.
Medical Dialogues earlier reported that the NMC released a seat matrix on September 29 showing a total of 63,177 MD, MS, Diploma, DM and MCh medical seats for the academic year 2026-27. However, the NMC clarified that the latest seat matrix does not include seats related to applications received for an increase in the intake of existing PG courses or for the commencement of new PG courses for the academic year 2026-27.
As per the list, Tamil Nadu has 63 seats, Uttar Pradesh has 61 seats, Madhya Pradesh has 60 seats, Gujarat has 54 seats, Andhra Pradesh has 46 seats, and Telangana has 39 seats.
Further, Haryana has 28 seats, Delhi has 25 seats, Kerala has 22 seats, West Bengal has 21 seats, Odisha has 20 seats, Chhattisgarh has 19 seats, Punjab has 17 seats, Bihar has 12 seats, and Assam has 11 seats; Uttarakhand has 10 seats, and Jharkhand has eight seats.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh and Puducherry each have six seats. Chandigarh, Goa and Manipur each have five seats, while Meghalaya and Tripura each have three seats.
However, no seats have been listed for MD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology/Forensic Medicine in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram and Sikkim.
