90 Medical Colleges with intake Capacity of 13,280 MBBS Seats added in last 3 years
New Delhi: In the last three years, a total number of ninety medical colleges have been established in the country, Minister of State, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar recently informed the Lok Sabha.
The Minister has further informed the Parliament that these newly constituted medical colleges have an intake capacity of 13,280 MBBS seats. Among these, 7180 belongs to Government Institutes, whereas 6100 belongs to private ones.
Among these 90 medical colleges, 12 have been constituted in Uttar Pradesh alone. Telangana got 9 medical colleges in the last three years. In both West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh a total number of 8 medical colleges each have been set up, revealed the data.
Minister Pawar was replying to a series of questions related to the newly established medical colleges in the country. The questions sought to know the details regarding the new medical colleges constituted within last three years and also the number of MBBS seats increased both in private and Government sectors.
"As informed by National Medical Commission (NMC), 90 medical colleges have been established during the last three years. State/UT-wise details are at Annexure-I. During the said period a total of 13280 MBBS seats (7180 Govt. and 6100 Private) have been increased," stated the MoS Health.
Regarding the number of new medical colleges, Uttar Pradesh tops the list. A total number of 12 medical colleges have been set up in the State including- Mulayam Singh Yadav Medical College & Hospital, Govt. Allopathic Medical College, Faizabad, 3 Govt. Medical Colleges in Shahjahanpur, Badaun, and Firozabad, Government Institute of Medical Sciences, Greater Noida, Rajkiya Allopathic Medical College, Bahraich, Rajkiya Allopathic Medical College, Ramnagar, AIIMS Gorakhpur, AIIMS Raibareli, United Institute of Medical Sciences, Allahabad, and Noida International Institute of Medical Sciences.
Telangana comes at the second place with a total number of 9 medical colleges being set up in the State in the last three years, reveals the data presented by MoS Health.
These medical colleges include, Ayaan Institute of Medical Sciences, Teaching Hospital & Research Centre, 2 Govt. Medical Colleges in Nalgonda and Suryapet, AIIMS Bibinagar, Dr. Patnam Mahender Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences, Surabhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Mamata Academy of Medical Sciences, and TRR Institute of Medical Sciences.
The medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh include, Govt. Datia Medical College, 6 Govt. Medical Colleges in Ratlam, Vidisha, Khandwa, Chhindwara, Shahdol, and Shivpuri, and Mahaveer Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Badwai, Bhopal.
In case of West Bengal, the list of 8 medical colleges include Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences & Hospital, Diamond Harbour Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Raiganj Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Cooch Behar Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Rampurhat Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Shri Ramkrishna Institute of Medical Sciences and Sanaka Hospitals, Purulia Govt. Medical College & Hospital, and AIIMS Kalyani.
A total number of 7 medical colleges have been set up in both the States Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The list of medical colleges in Maharashtra include 3 Government Medical Colleges in Jalgaon, Nandurbar and Baramati, AIIMS Nagpur, SindhudurgShikshanPrasarak Mandal Medical College & Lifetime Hospital, DattaMeghe Medical College, Wanadongri, and Symbiosis Medical College for Woman.
In case of Rajasthan, the newly constituted medical colleges include 6 Government medical colleges in Bhilwara, Bharatpur, Churu, Dungarpur , Pali, and Barmer and Shri Kalyan Govt. Medical College, Sikar.
The list of 6 medical colleges that have been constituted in Gujarat includes Zydus Medical College, Dahod, Banas Medical College & Research Institute, Palanpur, Shantabaa Hospital and Medical College, Dr. N.D. Desai Faculty of Medical Science and Research, NootanSarvaVidhyalayaKelavani Mandal, and Dr. Kiran C. Patel Medical College & Research Institute.
In three states including Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, and Jammu & Kashmir, 5 medical colleges have been set up in each of these States in the last 3 years.
The medical colleges in Tamil Nadu include Govt. Medical College in Karur, Kovai Medical Center & Hospital Ltd., Indira Medical College & Hospitals, Panimalar Medical College Hospital & Research Institute Varadharajapuram, and Bhaarath Medical College & Hospital.
In case of Jharkhand, the medical colleges include Palamu Medical College, Hazaribagh Medical College, Dumka Medical College, Manipal Tata Medical College, and AIIMS Deoghar.
5 new government medical colleges have been set up in Jammu & Kashmir as well. These medical colleges are located in Anantnag, Kathua, Baramulla, Rajouri and Doda.
In case of Bihar, 4 medical colleges have been constituted in the last three years. The list includes Lord Buddha Medical College& Hospital, Madhubani Medical College, JannayakKarpoori Thakur Medical College & Hospital, and Netaji Subhas Medical College & Hospital.
Bowring & Lady Curzon Medical College & Research Institute, Sri Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, and Dr. Chandramma Dayananda Sagar Institute of Medical Education & Research are the three new medical colleges that have been set up in Karnataka in the last three years, revealed the data presented in Parliament.
In Punjab two medical colleges including AIIMS Bhatinda and GianSagar Medial College & Hospital have been set up in the last three years. In case of Odisha, the list includes two Govt. Medical College & Hospitals in Balasore and Balangir.
Apart from these, 1 medical college each have been set up in Assam, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. These colleges include Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram Institute of Medical Sciences Education & Research in Mizoram, Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College in Himachal Pradesh, Assam Hills Medical College & Research Institute in Assam, Al Falah School of Medical Science & Research Centre in Haryana, AIIMS Mangalgiri in Andhra Pradesh, and Shri VinobhaBhave Institute of Medical Sciences & Research in Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
