AIIMS INI CET July 2025: No Postponement yet, Doctors Urge PM to Step In

Postpone INICET 2025
New Delhi: Despite repeated pleas from the aspirants and other members of the medical fraternity, there is no announcement on the postponement of AIIMS INICET July 2025 examination, scheduled for May 17, 2025. However, doctors remain persistent in their demand for a deferment, now calling for direct intervention from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Pointing out that schools and colleges in Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, and Samba will remain closed, medical education activist and the National Spokesperson of Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors' Network (IMA-JDN) Dr. Dhruv Chauhan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "But @aiims_newdelhi will conduct exam in these areas on 17th May If anything happens to any student during this exam this will be absolutely failure of @JPNaddaHe failed to to do his role as a health minister !"
"The AIIMS is conducting their examination Inicet in war zone affected areas who have remained in dark due to recent ongoing war and lost many days due to same. The centres have been changed at places where there is no reason while not in war affected border zones," Dr. Chauhan told Medical Dialogues.
"Who will be responsible for this carelessness if anything happens to them?" he questioned.

Meanwhile, Dr. Lakshya Mittal, the National President of the United Doctors' Front (UDF) has demanded the Prime Minister's intervention in the matter. Dr. Mittal pointed out how despite multiple rounds of deliberations and discussions with officials from the Ministry of Health and the AIIMS administration, the request for INI-CET postponement was not accepted.
Terming it "extremely unfortunate", he told Medical Dialogues, "Aspirants from border states continue to face genuine hardships due to the prevailing national emergency-like situation, yet there appears to be no sensitivity or accommodation from the authorities. AIIMS, as an autonomous institution, has shown an alarming level of rigidity—completely disregarding appeals from students, stakeholders. This is not just disappointing—it reflects an undemocratic approach, where decisions are made in a unilateral and authoritarian manner. A premier institution of national importance must lead with empathy, not by imposing decisions with complete indifference to ground realities. We fear that this is setting a dangerous precedent of institutional dictatorship, where even genuine humanitarian concerns are brushed aside."
He called for intervention directly from the Prime Minister and added, "At this point, the situation demands direct intervention from the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Office and the Union Health Minister. The ground realities of national importance examinations like NEET and INI-CET are being ignored by autonomous bodies. It’s time that the highest offices review how such critical exams are being conducted, ensuring fairness, sensitivity, and accountability in the process."
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that doctors and aspirants were demanding the postponement of the INI-CET July 2025 examination pointing out that considering the current situation in Srinagar, nationwide disruptions, including the widespread blackouts and flight suspensions, appearing in the exam could be potentially risky for the candidates. They have also been raising their concerns regarding the disruption in their preparation.
However, the authorities have not responded to their pleas. Amid this, medical aspirants and doctors are taking to X to express their demands for postponing the exam.
Doctors Welfare Federation (DWF) India wrote to the Assistant Controller of INI-CET 2025 Examination today and urged to defer the exam. The association mentioned in the letter, "Due to the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict, several critical transportation routes have been severely affected. A number of airports have been shut down, many trains are cancelled or diverted, and multiple flights have also been disrupted. These unprecedented circumstances are causing significant distress, especially to candidates from affected regions who may face serious challenges in reaching their examination centres safely and on time."
"2 days to go for INICET & still no word from govt about exam postponement amid escalating India-Pak tensions! When will we get an update? Safety & logistics concerns are real!," read the X post by Dr Nawazish Khan, who has been raising the issue.
Another doctor wrote, "We need to stop romanticizing AIIMS and start confronting the truth. Beneath the rankings and reputation lies a culture of neglect, burnout, and institutional apathy. Students are struggling in blackout-hit, conflict zones. AIIMS stays silent.#inicet2025 #inicet #MedX #medx"
The X handle of All India Doctors has also requested the Union Health Minister to postpone the INICET exam for a month and NEET PG exam by 2 months. "We are requesting @MoHFW_INDIA Mr. @JPNadda ji, to #postpone the #INICET for a month and #NEETPG for two months. Kindly convey it to the @aiims_newdelhi and #NBEMS, to notify ASAP. Postpone #INICET2025 to 15th June and #NEETPG2025 to 10th August and conduct it in a Single Shift," the X handle of All India Doctors wrote.
"Dear @aiims_newdelhi, & @JPNadda You’ve got blood on your hands, over a dozen student S*ICIDES, all triggered by your arrogance, apathy & anti student policies From torturing residents with insane duty hrs to forcing INICET during actual WAR tension," read an X post.
Meanwhile, the Chief Patrol of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), Dr. Rohan Krishnan, informed Medical Dialogues that they had a meeting with the RDA President of AIIMS Delhi regarding the issue and the RDA also informed that AIIMS is not in a position where they want postponement of the INICET exam.
"A group of students have approached us for the postponement of INICET examination. FAIMA Doctors Association did not support the move because of two reasons- one is that the war like situation was there a week ago seems to be solved right now and it appears that we are not at war with Pakistan at the moment and we do need to have an interference in the examination system. Secondly, once we ask for postponement of examination then the entire academic year is shifted and this becomes very difficult for us because there is again the demand for early counselling, and again there is delay in the examination process of the outgoing batch. So the entire system of the hospitals get affected by this and this is why we did not support it," Dr. Krishnan said.
"Earlier, yes, when there were so many centres were shut down, the airports were shut down, we were planning for that. But right now, we have also come to the stance that we should not postpone INICET examination because a major group of students also wants the examination to happen on time, especially those who are already working in the INIs. We had a meeting with the RDA president of AIIMS Delhi regarding this matter as well and he has also suggested that AIIMS is not in a position where they want postponement of the INICET examination and we stand with the RDAs and their opinions on this matter," he further informed.
