All Medical Degrees conferred by SCTIMST are now recognised by NMC
New Delhi: Amending the Schedule of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, the Apex medical commission has recently informed that medical degrees conferred by Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology (SCTIMST) shall now be recognised.
Issuing a public notice in this regard, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has informed about this amendment in the Schedule of the NMC Act, 2019.
"All concerned are hereby informed that Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum, being an Institute of National Importance has been included in the Schedule under section-37 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, 2019 by Central Government vide Notification dated 14th November, 2022 (copy enclosed). All the medical degree conferred by SCTIMST are recognised degrees under provisions of NMC Act, 2019," stated the notice.
"This issues with the approval of Chairman, NMC," further mentioned the notice issued by Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Sandhya Bhullar.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had published the amendment in this regard in the Gazette dated November 14, 2022. The Gazette notification had mentioned, "In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (3) of Section 37 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, the Central Government after recommendation of the National Medical Commission, hereby makes the following amendment in "The Schedule" of the Act, namely:"
"After entry (5), entry (6) shall be added: All medical qualifications granted by Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology (SCTIMST), Trivandrum," it had further added.
Operative under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, SCTIMST is an Institution of National Importance. It had been established by an Act of Parliament in 1980.
