Hyderabad: In an unfortunate incident, a 18-year-old (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) NEET aspirant allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the building of a coaching academy after being subject to alleged harassment by her hostel roommates due to her Scheduled Caste.

Her father in a complaint to police alleged that his daughter's roommates used to harass her mentally by mentioning her caste name as she belongs to SC community.

The deceased, a native of Kothagudem in Telangana, who was preparing for NEET at the coaching academy at Hayathnagar for the past six months and also staying in the hostel of the institute, jumped from the academy building on Monday night and died, police said.

After being informed by his daughter over the alleged harassment, he approached the academy's management but they did not respond properly and also did not warn the students, the complainant alleged.

The complainant said he told her daughter to come to their native place and that she had agreed. But, he received a phone call from the academy on Monday and was informed that his daughter had died by suicide by jumping from the academy building, PTI reports

Following this, she was taken to a private hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. Her body was found lying on the ground in a pool of blood around 9.30 pm on Monday.

A suicide note was found which did not blame anyone for the death, police said. The note mentioned that she took the extreme stress due to stress and apologised to her parents. The police have sent the letter for forensic analysis for verifying her handwriting.

He requested the police to take necessary action against the students and management following which a case was registered under sections of the Prevention of Atrocities (SC & ST) Act against them, police said. Further probe is on.

A similar incident took place on March where a 26-year-old MBBS female intern of SGPC-run Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Vallah committed suicide at her hostel after being harassed and abused by her seniors based on her caste, reported by Medical Dialogues team.

Following this, ten people, including two professors and four batchmates, have been booked by the police.
