Anxious over scoring less in NEET, Tamil Nadu MBBS aspirant allegedly commits suicide by consuming pesticide
Speaking about her death, the aspirant's brother said "She didn’t clear NEET last year and was heartbroken. ... She wanted to study MBBS and went for coaching but couldn’t clear (the exam). Then she joined a NEET coaching centre in Athur. She had complained that she couldn’t understand and was afraid that she would score less."
Chennai: Anxious over scoring less in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), an MBBS aspirant allegedly committed suicide after consuming pesticide on Monday in Tamil Nadu's Kallakrurichi.
The girl's medical studies presented a difficult obstacle for her, resulting in mental stress. The deceased was rushed to Kallakurichi Government Hospital and later transported to Salem Government Hospital where she died during treatment on Monday.
A resident of Eravar village in Tamil Nadu's Villupuram district, the aspirant was a student preparing for NEET-UG at a coaching institute in Arthur after facing an unsuccessful attempt at clearing the exam for the first time.
After failing the first attempt, the girl joined the coaching institute in Arthur in the hope of passing the exam on the second attempt. However, she still found it challenging to understand the medical studies and felt anxious about the prospect of failing again.
The girl allegedly consumed pesticide about three days ago in an attempt to take her own life. She chose not to share this information with anyone and remained in the same state until the pesticide eventually made her health deteriorate leading to unconsciousness.
When her relatives found her in an unconscious state, they immediately rushed her to a government hospital for treatment but unfortunately, the girl passed away.
Police have registered a case in this matter and an investigation is under process.
As per a media report in India Today, the parents of the deceased were aware of her mental condition as the girl told her parents that she was having a hard time with her medical studies. In response, her parents encouraged her to continue her studies and work harder.
