BAMS admissions 2026-27: NCISM derecognises 16 Ayurveda colleges in MP, Gujarat
Bhopal: The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has reportedly derecognised nine private Ayurvedic colleges offering BAMS courses in Madhya Pradesh and seven in Gujarat for the 2026-27 academic session.
The derecognition follows inspections conducted by NCISM teams at the colleges in the two states, which found regulatory violations and deficiencies in infrastructure, faculty arrangements, patient inflow and equipment requirements.
It is expected to affect more than 1,200 BAMS seats across the two states and has raised concerns among students preparing to seek admission to the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course at these colleges.
Madhya Pradesh
In Madhya Pradesh, the Commission has reportedly derecognised 9 Ayurvedic colleges for the 2026-27 academic session following inspections that found deficiencies in infrastructure, faculty arrangements and compliance with the prescribed norms.
According to Free Press Journal report, nine private Ayurvedic colleges have been derecognised in Madhya Pradesh for the 2026-27 academic session. The affected Ayurveda colleges include Rajiv Gandhi Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Shahpur, Bhopal; Veena Vadini Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Akbarpur, Kanha Kunj, Kolar Road, Bhopal; Parashar Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Narsinga Road, Parvalia, Bhopal; Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma Ayurvedic College, Bhopal-Indore Bypass Road, Bhopal; Department of Ayurveda and Community, IES University, Ratibad Main Road, Bhopal; School of Ayurveda and Siddha Studies, Panchama, Sehore; and Om Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, Jamthi, Bharat Bharati, Betul.

Madhya Pradesh currently has 39 Ayurvedic colleges, including seven government Ayurvedic colleges, with nearly 3,000 undergraduate Ayurvedic seats. With the derecognition of nine private colleges, around 650 BAMS seats are expected to be reduced
The action follows the Commission's findings that the nine private colleges did not meet the required norms, as per the Free Press Journal media report.
Meanwhile, the decision has raised concerns over the future of students seeking admission to BAMS in the state for the 2026-27 academic session, particularly those who have already enrolled or were preparing to enrol at the affected colleges. During the inspection, it was also found in some cases that doctors were shown as appointed in the records but were reportedly not physically present at the institutions when verification was carried out, adds the daily.
Gujarat
In Gujarat, NCISM has reportedly revoked the recognition of seven private Ayurvedic colleges following inspections conducted for the 2026-27 academic year. The colleges together account for around 620 BAMS seats in the state.
These institutions include Noble Ayurved College & Research Institute, Sumandeep Ayurved Medical College & Hospital, Sardar Ayurved College & Hospital, Dalia Ayurved College & Hospital, Limbdi Ayurvedic Medical College, Jay Jalaram Ayurvedic College and Shridhar Atulkumar Jani Ayurved Medical College.
According to Gujarat Samachar media report, NCISM took the action under Sections 28 and 29 of the NCISM Act, 2020, after inspections reportedly found deficiencies including a shortage of qualified teaching staff, inadequate patient inflow at affiliated hospitals, and a lack of required equipment and facilities.
