Centre sanctions Rs 140 crore to set up Ayurveda, homeopathy college in Tripura

Agartala: Bringing boost to AYUSH education, the central government has sanctioned Rs 140 crore for the establishment of a new Ayurveda and a homeopathy college in the state of Tripura.
At present, the northeastern state has three medical colleges, including the Agartala Government Medical College.
The information came from Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha who recently stated that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 140 crore for setting up an Ayurveda medical college and homeopathy medical college in the state.
“The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India has sanctioned Rs 140 cr for establishing Ayurveda Medical College and Homoeopathy Medical College in Tripura,” Saha said in a Facebook post.

A high-level meeting was held to finalise the roadmap and initiate steps to start the colleges from the next academic session, the CM said.
“Grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda ji, and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for AYUSH Shri Prataprao Yadav ji, for significant support to strengthen healthcare and education in the northeastern state,” Saha added.

Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) granted Letters of Intent (LOI) or Letters of Permission (LOP) to a total of 31 entities for setting up new ayurveda colleges.
Through the LOI or LOP, the NCISM directed the establishment of new Ayurveda medical colleges during the academic year 2025-26. They will also offer undergraduate courses, adding a total of over 2,600 seats to the existing undergraduate (UG) Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) program.
According to information received from NCISM, LOI and LOP were issued to 21 institutions from Maharashtra, four private institutions from Madhya Pradesh and one institution each from Karnataka, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh between June 2025 and November 19, 2025. Also, according to the NCISM data, Maharashtra has the highest number of UG colleges for Ayurveda, followed by Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
