NCISM withdraws authorisation, BAMS college moves court
Uttarakhand- The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the Union government to decide within three days on the representation submitted by the Manjira Devi Ayurvedic Medical College. While disposing of the petition, a single bench of Justice Pankaj Purohit directed the Centre to decide on the representation within three days.
The representation was regarding the withdrawal of authorisation by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine citing the lack of mandatory facilities required to run the institute and impart medical education. The college submitted its report on November 25.
As per the TOI media news report, the college's counsel argued before the court that, Uttarakhand Ayurveda University is currently conducting the counselling process for admission to the college which will end on December 7. Hence, the direction to decide on the representation should be time-bound.
Along with this, the counsel also informed the court that the college has submitted a representation to the Union Government seeking conditional permission to admit students for the academic session 2024-25 and all the deficiencies identified by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board and the University have been rectified.
After hearing the arguments from the counsels of the parties, the court said that "an innocuous prayer has been made by the counsel for the college that if the Centre is directed to take a decision forthwith on the representation, the interest of justice would be met and the college, which is imparting education at a remote place, would be protected", reports TOI.
Manjira Devi Ayurvedic Medical College was established in 2017-18 in the remote area of ​​Dunda in Uttarkashi district. The college offers a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) programme and has already graduated two batches of students. Meanwhile, the college was given provisional permission to admit 60 students for the academic session 2024-25, however, the permission has been revoked recently.
