NExT exam for AYUSH students to be effective for 2021-22 batch in March 2027 tentatively: NCISM

New Delhi: The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has officially announced that the National Exit Test (NExT) will be applicable for all AYUSH students admitted from the academic year 2021-22 onwards.
According to the public notice issued by NCISM on its official website on December 12th, the decision has been taken under the directions of the Ministry of AYUSH,(vide letter reference no. Y-18020/8/2022-EP-III dated 09.09.2025) and with the approval of Commission meeting held on 24.10.2025, "it has been decided that the National Exit Test (NEXT), to be conducted by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) shall be applicable for all students admitted from the Academic Year 2021-22 onwards in the month of March 2027 tentatively."
"All concerned institutions are directed to disseminate this information to students and faculty members and to take all necessary preparatory and administrative actions on a priority basis to ensure smooth implementation of NEXT as per the guidelines prescribed by NCISM," the notice issued by NCISM said.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported in 2024 that Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav declared that the National Exit Test (NExT) for Ayush will be effective for the students of 2021-22 academic session batch onwards.
The committee had recommended that the NExT will be applied to the students enrolled in the 2021-22 academic session under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) Acts, 2020, removing any ambiguity in its implementation.
The NExT is a key examination introduced by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) under the NCISM Act, 2020. It is designed to assess the clinical competency, medical ethics understanding and ability to handle medico-legal cases for graduates in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Sowa-Rigpa.
