Centre Gives Permission for 43 new PG Medical Seats at 3 GMCs in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Bringing good news to the postgraduate medical aspirants in Kerala, the Central Government has given its permission to add 43 new PG medical seats in three government medical colleges of the State.
Among these 43 newly added PG seats, a total number of 13 seats have been added to Alappuzha Medical College, 15 seats to Ernakulam Medical College and another 15 seats to Kannur Medical College.
These seats have been increased as per the scheme for strengthening and upgradation of seats, adds Malayalam News 18.
Earlier this year, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar informed the Parliament that India has altogether 45,471 MD, MS, and PG Diploma seats across 660 medical colleges in India.
According to the break-up given by the MoS Health, there were altogether 1,625 MD, MS and PG Diploma seats in Kerala. Further, the State had a total number of 1889 DM/MCh seats.
As per the latest media report by Malayalam News 18, under the scheme for strengthening and upgradation of seats, the Central Government has now sanctioned altogether 43 PG medical seats in three government medical colleges in Kerala.
In case of Alappuzha Medical College, 2 seats have been added in Anesthesia Department, 2 in Community Medicine, 1 seat in Dermatology, 1 in Forensic Medicine, 2 seats in General Medicine, 2 seats in General Surgery, 1 seat in Pathology, 1 seat in Pharmacology and 1 more in Transfusion Medicine.
Among the 15 newly added seats in Ernakulam Medical College, 2 seats have been added in Anesthesia Department, 2 seats in Orthopedics, 1 seat in General Medicine, 2 seats in Radiodiagnosis, 2 seats in Gynecology, 2 seats in General Surgery, 1 seat in Community Medicine, 1 seat in Forensic Medicine, 1 seats in Respiratory medicine and 1 seat in Ophthalmology, adds Malayalam Samayam.
In Kannur Medical College, 1 seat has been added in Anesthesia, 1 in General Medicine, 2 in Radiodiagnosis, 1 in Gynecology, 1 in General Surgery, 2 in Pediatrics, 2 in Forensic Medicine, 1 in Respiatory Medicine, 2 in Emergency Medicine, and 2 in Orthopedics.
"Addition of PG seats will help the growth of medical colleges in the state" the Health Minister of Kerala, Veena George told Kerala Kaumudi.
