Delhi approves Rs 25 lakh assistance to MBBS student who won bravery award
New Delhi: The Delhi government is going to provide financial assistance of Rs 25.55 lakh to an MBBS student who won the National Bravery Award in 2017.
Speaking to PTI, Delhi Higher Education Minister Atishi said, "The financial assistance will be given to Akshit Sharma, an MBBS student who received the National Bravery Award in 2017 along with his sister Akshita Sharma."
Since 2019, the Delhi government has been giving financial assistance for higher education to Akshita, who recently completed LLM, she added.
Atishi also met National Bravery Award-winning siblings Akshit and Akshita.
"The Kejriwal government stands with these children who show bravery for the country and society; their bravery is an example for the whole country," she said.
The minister said under Delhi's Financial Assistance Scheme, students from the city who receive the National Bravery Award and whose parent's annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh get 100 per cent tuition fees, a special grant of Rs 2,500 per month, and a grant of Rs 5,000 annually for stationery.

On the afternoon of 8 December 2015, Akshita and her younger brother Akshit returned home from school to find the iron gate of the house opened and wooden door closed from inside. After knocking at the door several times, they heard a response from inside. However uncomfortable at the unfamiliar voice, the children did not respond.
Sensing trouble, Akshita tried to peep through the window on the top of the main door and noticed two strangers moving inside the drawing room. Meanwhile, Akshit kept knocking at the door. As one of the thieves jumped from the balcony carrying some bags, Akshita rushed forward and tried to catch him by his cloths. However, the miscreant caught her neck and slapped her face. As a result, Akshita's spectacles fell on the ground and the thief fled. As the second thief came out from the balcony carrying a bag, Akshit too rushed there throwing the school bags aside. Both the children caught hold of the thief tightly and started shouting. Hearing them, neighbours rushed to the spot. The thief was thus apprehended.
Akshita Sharma and Akshit Sharma fearlessly confronted the miscreants with indomitable courage.
They are among the three children from the national Capital who have bagged the prestigious award for performing an extraordinary deed of bravery.
