Delhi's Guru Nanak Eye Care Center To Offer Degree Course In Bachelor Of Optometry
Delhi: Guru Nanak Eye Care Center in Delhi to offer a degree course in Bachelor of Optometry (B Optom).
Guru Nanak Eye Care Center is a premier ophthalmic institute in Delhi, providing comprehensive eye care services. It was conceived in 1971, and its 1st wing, the OPD block, became operational in 1977. The institute has the latest state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure to cater to complete ocular investigations and treatment of eye diseases. It has 6 ophthalmic units.
The institute's objective is to give quality eye care to the people of Delhi by training students and preparing them to lend their support at community and national level screening activities.
This degree course will be at the graduate level for 4 years. In this 4-year duration, 1 year will be an internship. The candidates who have done 10+2 from the science stream will be eligible to apply. For admission, candidates will have to appear for the entrance exam, reports PTI.
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia stated, "Eyes are a very delicate & crucial part of the human anatomy. In the digital era, many people are suffering from chronic eye diseases due to the excessive use of electronic devices such as TVs, laptops, and cellular devices. Under such conditions, there is a demand for Optometry experts in the country as well as across the world
Bachelor of Optometry is a degree program in the field of Optometry, awarded upon graduation from an optometry school under a recognized university. Its curriculum is designed to impart knowledge about the eye and its connected organs, correct refractive errors, and manage eye diseases. This degree comprises 4 years of education, including 1 year of clinical internship at a tertiary eye care center. This degree is the minimum required qualification to be called an optometrist and practice optometry.
