Observe Anti Ragging Day on 12th August followed by Anti-Ragging Week: DCI directs all dental colleges
Delhi: Through a recent notice, the Dental Council of India (DCI) has directed all the Principals/Heads of all the Dental Colleges in the Country.
As per the notice, the Dental Council of India (DCI) has directed all dental colleges/institutions in the country to observe Anti Ragging Day on 12th August, followed by Anti Ragging Week from 12th August to 18th August 2023. This comes in pursurance of a joint effort to combat ragging and create a safe learning environment, whereby the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Dental Council of India (DCI) have announced a collaboration to promote anti-ragging measures in dental colleges and institutions across the country.
"The University Grants Commission (UGC), vide D.O. letter No.F.1-74/2016 (ARC) dated 05.07.2023 has decided that from this year Anti Ragging Day would be observed on 12th August followed by Anti Ragging Week from 12th August to 18th August," the notice stated
This initiative is one of the tools of the Commission in increasing awareness against ragging and hence all colleges have been directed to adopt the following activities during the celebration of Anti Ragging Day/Week :-
i. Introduction/Orientation programme on Anti Ragging.
ii. Conduct various competition such as slogan & essay writing, poster making, and logo designing on Anti Ragging and distribute certificates/prized to encourage the students/faculty/non-teaching staff to promote Anti Ragging.
iii. Events like Anti-Ragging workshops, seminars and other creative avenues to spread the idea.
iv. TVCs, short films and documentary movies may be shown to students and faculty. (Available on UGC website i.e. www.ugc.ac.in & www.antiragging.in)
The Dental Council of India ensures Zero Tolerance against ragging of any sort, the notice emphasized adding to the dental colleges that the notice be treated as 'Most Urgent'.
Dental colleges and institutions are encouraged to visit the UGC website at www.ugc.ac.in and www.antiragging.in, as well as the DCI website at www.dciindia.gov.in, to access these resources.
