Financial issue: TN student cracks NEET twice, still not able to study medicine
Madurai: Having merit but not finances is proving costly for a TN based farmers daughter who has cleared NEET twice but unable to join any medical college due to financial issues. A student named Thangapachi from Panamooppanpatty village in Tamil Nadu's Madurai, has requested for financial help from govt after cracking NEET(National Eligibility cum Entrance Test). She has passed her higher secondary school in 2020 from the Vikramangalam Kallar High School.
The NEET exam is conducted by CBSE (Central Board Of Secondary Education) every year for admissions in graduate Medical course (MBBS), Dental course (BDS) or Post-Graduate course (MD/MS) in government or private medical colleges in India. The NEET exam is for Class 11 and 12 students and the questions consist of subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Total Marks for the same is 720 and the exam is conducted for a duration of three hours in which candidates have a total of 180 questions carrying four marks for every correct answer and negative 1 for incorrect responses.
Against all financial odds, She has cleared the NEET examination consecutively in the academic year of 2021 and 2022. She did not study in a private medical college in 2021, because of high expenses of tuition fees, food and accommodation.
Thangapachi got a chance to study medicine at the Mookambika Medical College (Kanyakumari) in 2022.In addition to pursuing her formal education, she even does farming in order to support her family. Being a farmer himself and and having agriculture as a primary occupation, her father supported all her needs and ensured that all of his children received education.
"Government is only paying my tuition fees and I have no money for other expenses like accommodation. In such a case, I had to resume farming," she said in a letter she wrote to govt, appealing for financial help.
