First PG Medical College to be set up in Navi Mumbai by May 2023 starting with 5 specialities
Navi Mumbai: Aiming at commencing admission in the first PG Medical College of Navi Mumbai by May 2023, the officials of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) have started the procedure to ensure adequate faculty and infrastructure for this purpose.
The decision regarding this was taken in a meeting, wherein the NMMC commissioner, Abhijit Bangar, issued directions for getting necessary equipment and manpower for the hospital, reports Hindustan Times.
The meeting had been held after the committee chaired by the additional commissioner of NMMC, Dr. Sanjay Kakade, submitted a detailed project report to the Commissioner. The launch of the medical college was discussed in detail at the meeting.

Hindustan Times adds that as per the plan, the courses would be initiated in three phases and in the first phase start Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedic, Gynecology and Paediatric branches would commence.
Initially, in the first phase, the medical college facilities would be provided from Vashi and Airoli hospitals.
In order to start admitting students from 2023, the staff has been directed for working on the hostel and library facilities meant for the college students. Further, the Health Department has been directed by NMMC to arrange regular review meetings for keeping a check on the work of the college launch.
While commenting on the development of the college, NMMC commissioner, Abhijit Bangar put emphasis on initiating admission to the medical college by May 2023. "The college will not be just a provision for the students in the city but will also provide better quality healthcare to the citizens of Navi Mumbai," he mentioned before HT.
"The plan is to start Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedic, Gynecology and Paediatric branches in the first phase and other branches would be started in three phases. A separate place for the hostel will also have to be made," he added.
