FMGE June 2026 row: NBE forms probe panel, answer key to be released after review
New Delhi: In the latest update on the ongoing agitation by foreign medical graduates over alleged irregularities during the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) June 2026, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has constituted an independent three-member committee to examine all the issues raised by the candidates.
This comes after the medicos held a protest at the Jantar Mantar on August 3, 2026, which was called by All FMGs Association (AFA) and All India Medical Students' Association - Foreign Medical Students' Wing (AIMSA-FMSW). During the protest, the representatives of both the associations met NBEMS officials to discuss the matter after being invited by the Board.
The key demands of the medicos include an independent inquiry into the conduct of the FMGE June 2026 examination, publication of the official answer key and candidates' response sheets to ensure transparency, a review of the introduction of video-based questions and the collection of previous FMGE roll numbers, improvement in examination centre infrastructure, review in the FMGE examination fee, and appropriate compensation by lowering the qualifying cut-off for June 2026 candidates. The association also urged the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to establish a transparent mechanism for stakeholder consultation before introducing major changes to the examination pattern.
During the meeting, NBEMS informed the representatives that an independent three-member committee has been constituted to examine all the concerns raised by candidates. The officials clarified that the committee members are independent of NBEMS. The committee has been given a three-week timeline to thoroughly review all the issues and submit its findings.
On the issue of the FMGE June 2026 answer key, NBEMS agreed to release the answer key after the review process is completed.
Regarding demands for compensation marks, NBEMS said it would take three weeks to evaluate the answer key and the concerns raised by candidates. The officials stated that appropriate action would be taken if any questions are found to be unfair or excessively difficult.
NBEMS officials also informed the representatives that an official press statement on the matter is expected to be released by today (August 4, 2026).
NBEMS assured the associations that all the issues raised by FMGE June 2026 candidates would be addressed sincerely and that every effort would be made to ensure a fair resolution within the three-week timeline.
"They assured us that within three weeks, every matter regarding this will be resolved and justice will be given to FMGs. We sincerely thank all FMGs for their patience, unity, and continued support throughout this movement," the association said.
Commenting on this, Dr Samar Kumar from National Vice President, AIMSA-FMSW & AFA told Medical Dialogues, "Today, we are sending a clear message to NBEMS and requesting the Hon’ble Union Health Minister, Shri J. P. Nadda ji. The concerns of FMGE June 2026 candidates cannot be ignored any longer."
"We demand that NBEMS act with complete transparency and accountability & provide bonus marks or reduce the cutoff. We urge the Hon’ble Health Minister to personally intervene and ensure that these grievances are addressed through a fair, time-bound, and impartial process. Every candidate deserves to know that their concerns are being heard and that justice will be done. Foreign Medical Graduates are not asking for sympathy or special treatment. We are demanding fairness, equal opportunity, and respect for due process. The future of thousands of young doctors cannot be left uncertain because of administrative lapses. I want to assure every FMG that we will continue this fight through every democratic and constitutional means until a just resolution is achieved. We will not step back until the voices of FMGs are heard and concrete action is taken," he said.
