FMGs oppose 2 years CRMI, move Health Minister seeking relaxation
Delhi: Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) recently approached Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health and Family Welfare opposing a directive of the National Medical Commission (NMC) that mandates two years of Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI) for FMGs instead of one.
The NMC notification dated July 29, 2022 made two years of Compulsory Rotatory Medical Internship (CRMI) mandatory for FMGs instead of one. Anyone who earned their undergraduate degree and passed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) on or before June 30, 2022, is subject to the new regulation.
Opposing the mandate, a team of FMG Doctors met the Minister of Health and Family Welfare on 6th January and requested a relaxation on the NMC directive. One of the doctors who attended the meeting informed that the minister has assured them that he will try to look into the matter and take necessary steps to insist on one year of CRMI instead on two years.
Dr Shahroz Khan, an FMG, posted on Twitter stating: '"A team of FMG Doctors met @mansukhmandviya in New Delhi to provide relaxation about 2yr CRMI & end this injustice so that we could achieve the dream to serve our motherland #FMGs #StopTargettingFMGs #MedTwitter #Doctors"
