ICMR RMRIMS to Host Workshop on Biostatistics- 'Backbone of Bio-Medical Research', Register Now
Patna- Indian Council of Medical Research-Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences, (ICMR-RMRIMS), Patna has organised an offline three-day hands-on workshop on Biostatistics: “A Backbone of Bio-Medical Research”. The workshop is funded by the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
As per the brochure in this regard, the workshop will be held next month i.e. July from 3rd to 5th July 2024 in the auditorium of ICMR-RMRIMS, Patna.
The applications for the said workshop have already started and will be valid till June 15, 2024 therefore, candidates are requested to register themselves for the workshop as the workshop is limited only to 30 participants. The selection of participants is based on a “First Come First Serve” Basis (FCFS). The candidates who want to apply for this workshop are requested to get an approval letter from the competent authority.
It is to be noted that along with the filled-in registration form candidates will also have to pay a registration fee of Rs 1000 per person without accommodation, which includes GST rates. It covers the cost of the training programme kit, lunch and tea during the workshop period. The payment should be made either through Demand Draft in favour of Director RMRIMS, Patna Payable at Patna or through NEFT /RTGS. The fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable.
WHO CAN APPLY
Faculties, scientists, Residents from Medical Colleges, Nursing Colleges, Demographers, Epidemiologist from Govt. and Pvt. organisations all faculty members (regular/ad-hoc/temporary/guest) from any Indian/Foreign university/college, Ph. D. research scholars and UG & PG Students of Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biostatistics, Biomedical, Medical and related areas are eligible to apply.
Moreover, to be a part of this workshop the candidates should have a basic understanding of statistical concepts and methods. A passion for learning and an interest in applying statistical methods to medical research are the primary prerequisites.
Talking about the workshop on Biostatistics, it is designed to offer participants a comprehensive understanding of statistical methods within the realm of biological and health sciences. The workshop will delve into the world of descriptive and inferential statistics, guiding participants through the interpretation of data and making informed inferences about populations. Hands-on experience with statistical software commonly used in biostatistics will empower participants to apply their knowledge in practical scenarios. With a commitment to fostering a collaborative learning environment, this workshop aims to enhance participants' statistical literacy, critical appraisal of research studies, and ability to communicate findings effectively in the context of biological and health research. Below are the objectives and contents of the workshop-
OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP
1 To develop a solid foundational understanding of the role and significance of biostatistics in biomedical research and health sciences.
2 To equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary for designing robust and well-controlled experiments and observational studies.
3 To foster a mastery of both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, enabling participants to effectively analyze and interpret data sets common in biological and health research.
4 To ensure hands-on proficiency with widely-used statistical software (e.g., R, Python, Excel, Epi Info), empowering participants to apply Biostatistical methods to real-world research scenarios.
5 To develop participants' ability to critically appraise research studies, particularly focusing on the statistical methods employed, thereby enhancing their research evaluation capabilities.
6 To enhance participants' skills in communicating statistical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences, promoting clear and accurate dissemination of research results.
7 To provide participants with resources, references, and tools for ongoing learning, ensuring they have the support needed to continue developing their Biostatistical knowledge beyond the workshop.
CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP
1 Introduction to Biostatistics.
2 Statistical Data Concepts.
3 Descriptive Statistics.
4 Sampling Methods along with sample size determination techniques.
5 Inferential Statistics.
6 Theory of estimation.
7 Testing of hypothesis.
8 Epidemiological study designs and measures.
9 Statistical Measures for screening and diagnosis tools (Sensitivity and Specificity).
10 Citation Network Analysis (CNA).
11 Hands-on Sessions on the above topics using different statistical software packages.
