Jharkhand FMGs urge medical council to open internship portal, cite delay despite sufficient seats available

Ranchi: The foreign medical graduates in Jharkhand have written to the Jharkhand State Medical Council (JSMC), raising concerns over the delay in opening the Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) registration portal for internship applications.
In a letter dated June 3, 2026, addressed to the President of JSMC, the FMGs said that the prolonged delay has caused severe stress and uncertainty among students who cleared the FMGE in December 2025.
The graduates stated that despite clearing the mandatory Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), a licensure examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, and completing all required documentation, the JSMC has not yet opened the registration portal for internship applications, whereas neighboring states initiated this process weeks ago.
Highlighting the issue of seat availability, the students stated that Jharkhand has around 170 to 180 sanctioned CRMI seats for FMGs in state medical colleges. They claimed that the total number of candidates currently waiting for internships, including the December 2025 FMGE pass-outs and some remaining candidates from previous batches, is around 120. Therefore, they argued that there is no actual shortage of seats in the state.
The FMGs further said that graduates in other states began their internships in April and May. However, by delaying the portal, they said that JSMC is putting Jharkhand's own resident students at a severe competitive disadvantage.
"It truncates our vital preparation time for upcoming Postgraduate (NEET-PG / NEXT) examinations, directly impacting our future careers and the state’s representation in national medical academics," the graduates said in the letter.
The students also mentioned that their batch has already fulfilled all national requirements after clearing the FMGE in December 2025, and their internship process should not be delayed because of future FMGE examination cycles.
In the letter, the FMGs placed three main demands before the council. They requested the immediate release of an official notification confirming the date for opening the online registration portal, preferably no later than June 10. They also sought publication of a college-wise seat matrix for FMGs and demanded the appointment of a nodal grievance officer to regularly communicate updates to students.
"We are qualified, capable doctors eager to serve the healthcare infrastructure of our home state, Jharkhand. We humbly request you to act in the best interest of your state’s youth and open the registration window without further delay," they added.
Commenting on this, Dr Keshav Priyanshu, National Joint Secretary All India Medical Students' Association Foreign Medical Students' Wing (AIMSA-FMSW) told Medical Dialogues, "Jharkhand FMGs who cleared FMGE in December 2025 are facing an unnecessary delay in starting their mandatory internship despite sufficient seats being available. Every month of delay affects our training, postgraduate preparation, and career progression. We appeal to the authorities to immediately open the registration portal and ensure a transparent, time-bound internship allocation process."
