MBBS Fees at Gujarat Private Medical Colleges range from 6L to 18L
Ahmedabad: Students need to spend around Rs 6 lakh to 18 lakh in order to pursue medical education in the private medical institutes in Gujarat.
While the fees at the Government medical colleges in the State is Rs 25,000 every year, for the academic year 2020-2021, 15 private medical colleges in the State had charged around Rs 5.93 lakh to Rs 8.70 lakh for the government quota, and from Rs 14.82 lakh to Rs 18.25 lakh for the management quota seats.
The confirmation regarding this came from the State Government itself while responding to the questions of deputy leader of the opposition Shailesh Parmar, a Congress MLA from Danilimda at the assembly.
Apart from providing information regarding the MBBS fee structure, the State Government also discussed about the possibility of opening seven new medical colleges in Gujarat.

As per the latest media report by the Times of India, while responding to a question from Vansda MLA Anantkumar Patel of the Congress, the Government informed about sending a proposal to the Central Government for opening new medical colleges in Navsari, Rajpipla, Porbandar, Godhra, and Morbi.
Although the Centre is yet to give its nod for the proposal, the State informed in the Assembly that once the inspections are done, clearance would be given in this regard.
Meanwhile, while responding to another question from Congress MLA Premsinh Vasava, the Government informed that as on December 31, 2021, nod has been given for starting medical colleges in Rajpipla, Navsari, Porbandar, Godhra and Morbi.
As per the information provided by the Government, the proposal for opening a medical college in Veraval in Gir-Somnath and another in Jamkhambhaliya in Devbhoomi Dwarka is yet to receive approval.
Meanwhile, deputy leader of the opposition Shailesh Parmar inquired the Government about the MBBS fees in Government and Private medical colleges.
Responding to the queries, the Government informed that the fees at Government medical colleges in the State has been fixed at Rs 25,000 per year.
Regarding the Private medical colleges, the Government provided the figures for both the academic year 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. While the fees for the academic year 2020-2021 ranged from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 18 lakh, in the previous year, it was Rs 5.73 lakh to Rs 8.22 lakh for the Government quota seats, and Rs 13.5 lakh to Rs 17.6 lakh for the management quota seats.
The Government also informed that Gujarat Medical Education & Research Society (GMERS) charge around Rs 3 lakh for the Government quota seats, Rs 8.25 lakh per year for the management quota seats, and USD 20,000 (about Rs 15 lakh) for the NRI quota seats on a yearly basis.
It should be mentioned in this context that the National Medical Commission (NMC), the apex medical education regulatory body had clarified recently that the fees of 50 percent seats in the private medical colleges would be at par with government medical colleges of that particular State/UT.
"After extensive consultations, it has been decided that the fee of the 50 per cent seats in the private medical colleges and deemed universities should be at par with the fee in the government medical colleges of that particular State and UT. The benefit of this fee structure would be first made available to those candidates who have availed government quota seats, but are limited to the extent of 50 per cent of the total sanctioned strength of the respective medical college/deemed university," NMC had mentioned in the notification.
