Medical Admission Delayed: Students seek clarity from Maharashtra CET Cell
Mumbai: With no news regarding the Undergraduate and Postgraduate medical admission, the medical aspirants in Maharashtra are worried and anxious and they are now seeking clarity from Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) cell.
Although the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has recently released a tentative schedule for admission to Postgraduate medical courses, there has been no announcement on the behalf of the State authorities till now. As per the MCC schedule NEET PG counselling has started from September 15, 2022.
Similarly, It has been two months since the conduct of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate Examination and the results have also been published. However, the medical aspirants in the State are yet to get any news regarding the commencement of the counselling.
As per the latest media report by Hindustan Times, the senior officials from the State CET cell have blamed the pending decision for other backward classes (OBC) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories in the all-India quota (AIQ) seats as the reason for delayed admission.
On the other hand, the aspirants and their parents are worried over this delay which might also indicate changes in the admission process this year.
While commenting on this a PG medical aspirant told HT, "Whatever be the process, we need to be informed about the same in advance. Not only is the CET cell delaying the process, the state Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) too has not yet confirmed the fee structure of medical colleges for UG as well as PG courses. Last minute announcements tend to leave students as well as the admissions authority in a mess."
Expressing concern over the issue, Sudha Shenoy, a mother and activist told the daily, "Something as simple as an admissions brochure has not been released by the state common entrance test (CET) cell. PG medical aspirants appeared for their exam in May and the result was out on June 2, only to wait for months together for the admissions process to start. Such delay will reflect in students' academic time."
