31,728 MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing seats up for grabs in Round 1 MCC NEET counselling 2026, reset registration open till August 12

The latest developments include the release of the detailed Round 1 seat matrix, activation of a Reset Registration facility for candidates who entered incorrect details, and revised instructions for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) following an addendum issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

For thousands of aspirants preparing their medical college preferences, the three updates are significant. While the seat matrix gives candidates a clearer picture of the courses, colleges, quotas and category-wise seats available in Round 1, the reset-registration option offers a chance to correct errors before the counselling process moves ahead.

PwBD candidates, meanwhile, have been given further clarity on disability certificates, assessment boards and the mechanism available if they are declared ineligible during primary assessment.

MCC has published the Round 1 seat matrix covering MBBS, BDS and BSc Nursing seats available through NEET UG Counselling 2026. According to the seat matrix, a total of 31728 seats are vacant across medical colleges in India.

The matrix gives candidates details including the state, type of institution, institute name, quota, course, category, number of seats and gender eligibility. It includes seats under a range of participating institutions and quotas, including All India Quota (AIQ) institutions, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Central institutions, Deemed Universities and other participating colleges.

Deemed University seats are also included under categories such as Self-Financed Merit Seats and Non-Resident Indian seats.

BDS seats are similarly included across government dental colleges and deemed institutions, while the complete matrix also covers participating BSc Nursing seats.

Candidates are therefore advised to study the matrix carefully before arranging their preferences, particularly because seat availability differs according to institution, quota and category. Below is the detailed seat matrix-

Additionally, MCC has activated the Reset Registration option for Round 1 of UG Counselling 2026.

Candidates who accidentally entered incorrect information or selected a wrong option while registering can now unlock their application and correct their registration details.

According to the notice issued by the MCC in this regard, the correction facility will remain available until 11:00 AM on August 12, 2026. Candidates must use the unlock/reset registration option available on the counselling portal to make the necessary changes.

“This is for information to all candidates that the reset Registration option has been activated for Round-1 of UG Counselling 2026. Hence, those candidates who have inadvertently entered incorrect information or selected wrong options during registration may rectify their registration details upto 11:00 AM of 12.08.2026 by using unlock /re-set registration option”, the notice read.

The facility is particularly important for candidates who may have made errors while selecting categories, quotas or other counselling-related information during their initial registration.

Alongside, MCC has issued an important notice for candidates applying under the PwBD category.

The National Medical Commission issued an addendum to its July 27, 2026 guidelines on assessment of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities for admission to the MBBS course. MCC has advised candidates to read the addendum as an integral part of the original PwBD assessment guidelines.

One of the key clarifications relates to candidates possessing temporary UDID cards or disability certificates. The NMC has clarified that a candidate should not be denied consideration merely because the UDID card or disability certificate is temporary, provided the disability has been categorised as progressive, non-progressive or not likely to improve, subject to verification by the Medical Assessment Board.

Where a candidate possesses a temporary UDID for a condition recorded as “likely to improve”, the Medical Assessment Board will reassess the benchmark disability as per the prescribed assessment methodology and separately assess the candidate's functional competency under the 2026 guidelines.

The Medical Assessment Board will continue to independently examine the functional competency of the candidate before issuing the Eligibility Certificate.

MCC has also published an expanded list of 65 Primary Medical Assessment Boards authorised to issue Eligibility Certificates to PwBD candidates seeking the 5% PwD reservation.

Some centres are authorised to assess all disabilities mentioned in the Eligibility Certificate, while others have specific limitations.

MCC has also instructed all Primary Medical Assessment Boards to include one PwBD doctor or health professional who is a regular employee as a member of the Board.

Another important development is the creation of an appeal mechanism for candidates who are declared ineligible by a Primary Disability Assessment Medical Board.

In compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court in M.A. No. 378/2025 in C.A. No. 14333/2024, an Appellate Body has been constituted for disability assessment and facilitation of PwBD candidates.

The five authorised Appellate Disability Assessment Boards are-

1 VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.

2 Grant Government Medical College & Sir JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai.

3 Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

4 Madras Medical College, Chennai.

5 Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER), Kolkata.

A candidate declared ineligible by the Primary Disability Assessment Medical Board may submit an appeal before the beginning of the relevant counselling round.

The candidate must also mention their preferred Appellate Disability Assessment Board.

After the appeal is received, the selected Board will schedule an assessment and communicate the date, time, venue and necessary instructions to the candidate.

The candidate will then have to appear before the Board with the relevant medical and disability-related documents.

The Appellate Board will reassess the disability in accordance with the prevailing 2024 guidelines for assessing the extent of specified disabilities.

Following the examination and review of documents, the Board will issue its final finding through a reasoned order mentioning the disability status, percentage of disability and eligibility under the PwBD category for NEET counselling.

MCC has clarified that the decision of the Appellate Disability Assessment Board will be final.
