378 MBBS Seats Remain Vacant In Deemed Universities After 3 Rounds Of Counselling In Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu: 378 MBBS seats remain vacant in many deemed universities after 3 rounds of the counseling process in the state of Tamil Nadu. The counselling process is being conducted by the Director-General of Health Services (DGHS).
The respective institution has to fill the seats in the next 3 days. The cost of which will be 25 lakhs per annum through stray vacancy round.
As per the media report from TOI, Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute under the Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth had 184 of 250 seats vacant, Sree Balaji Medical College under Bharat Institute of Higher Education and Research had 62 vacant seats, and Chettinad Academy of Research and Education had 32 vacant seats. 53 MBBS seats under AIQ are still vacant in state-run medical colleges.
Previously the seats were returned to the state selection committee if they were not filled in the 1st and 2nd rounds of counselling. As per the selection committee officials, such a number of vacant seats has never been seen in the previous years.
The candidates must pass class 12 with a minimum of 50% marks for the general category for admission. And those who are from SC/ST/OBC and PH categories need 40% and 45% marks, respectively, in the class 12 examination. In addition, they must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects. Candidates 17 years or above as of 31st December 2021 are eligible for participation.
The entire counselling process is online for seats under 85% state quota and 100% private colleges. Admissions are granted based on the choices filled, NEET-UG rank, seat matrix, reservation, and other factors. The counselling of the remaining 15% seats is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
The admissions are given only to candidates whose documents are verified. A self-declaration form at the time of the reporting to the concerned college is needed to be given by the candidates.
