950 MBBS, 271 PG medical seats added in UP this year

Increase of Medical Seats
Lucknow: Bringing good news to the medical aspirants and doctors willing to pursue postgraduate medical courses, the Uttar Pradesh Government has approved an increase of 950 MBBS seats and 271 PG seats in the medical colleges for the 2025-2026 academic session.
Out of these 950 MBBS seats, 200 seats have been added in three government medical colleges, while 750 seats have been approved in 12 private medical institutes.

As per the latest media report by India Today, among the government medical colleges, 100 new MBBS seats have been added to the Amethi-based Autonomous State Medical College. ESIC Medical College, Noida, and ESIC Medical College, Varanasi, have each received permission for 50 additional seats.
After the increase in MBBS seats, the intake capacity in government medical colleges has increased to 5,450 seats, and the intake capacity has increased to 7,350. Due to this, the total MBBS intake in the State for the upcoming academic year has been increased to nearly 12,800 seats.
The capacity for the postgraduate medical seats has been increased as well. India Today has reported that altogether 271 MD /MS seats have been added to the State's seat matrix. Among these, 233 seats have been added to the government medical colleges, and 38 seats have been added to the private sector, specifically at Narayan Medical College, Kanpur. Due to this increase in medical seats, the total number of PG medical seats has now reached 2,137 seats in government medical colleges and 2,160 seats in private medical colleges.
The State Government's decision to enhance both undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats aligns with the State's long-term strategy to improve healthcare delivery and address doctor shortages across urban and rural areas of Uttar Pradesh.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that NMC had granted its permission for 233 additional postgraduate medical seats in Uttar Pradesh for admission via National Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 Counselling.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) approved 2,337 new postgraduate medical seats for the NEET PG 2025 counselling. The updated NEET PG seat matrix was released by the Gujarat Admission Committee for Professional Post Graduate Medical Courses (ACPPGMEC) on its official website.
