AIIMS Rishikesh Invites Applications for PhD Programme January 2025: Check Important Dates, Eligibility, Exam Details
Rishikesh- All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh is inviting applications for PhD Programme January 2025. In this regard, AIIMS Rishikesh has released a prospectus detailing the important information including a Summary of the Examination pattern, Seat Distribution & Eligibility Criteria, Method of Selection, etc for the candidates willing to take admission PhD Programme at AIIMS Rishikesh.
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh offers broad-based research programs leading to the award of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Research work may exemplify the development of new interventions, testing of new scientific ideas or gaining insight into biological processes.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION TO PhD COURSE
A. A candidate seeking admission to the course of study leading to the award of a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy must possess at least one of the following qualifications from a recognized University/Institute.
a Degrees and eligibility for Courses for medical candidates-
1 MBBS degree or equivalent with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or equivalent percentile in professional examinations.
2 MD/MS/MDS/DM/MCH in the subject concerned or Diplomat of National Board of examinations or equivalent degree recognized by MCI/DCI.
3 Masters degrees after BAMS, BHMS and BNYS will be eligible for PhD in AYUSH.
4 Minimum of 55% marks or equivalent in the last eligibility examination qualified.
5 A relaxation of 5% may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled and Female Candidates.
b Degrees and eligibility for Courses for non-medical candidates-
1 Candidates holding MSc (other than MSc Nursing), M. Biotech/ M Tech degree/M Com MBA / MPH will be eligible for the non-medical qualification category.
2 Candidates possessing a Master's Degree through distance learning courses shall not be eligible.
3 Minimum of 55% marks or equivalent in last eligibility examination qualified.
4 A relaxation of 5% may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently Abled and Female Candidates.
B Eligibility criteria for External Candidates in permanent employment-
1 Candidates who are permanent employees of external Institutions (Central Govt/ Semi Govt/ Autonomous organization) should apply through the proper channel. i.e., employer. They will be required to submit a ‘No Objection Certificate” from their employer/Head of Institute.
2 In addition, such Candidates will have to provide a certificate at the time of joining from the employer stating that in the event of selection to PhD course, the Candidate will be granted a minimum period of 03-year study leave with full pay and permission to work at AIIMS Rishikesh to pursue full-time PhD Course.
C. Eligibility criteria for In-service- Candidates from AIIMS Rishikesh
i For In-service Medical Candidates
1 Members of the medical faculty can apply for registration to PhD courses as In-service candidates. He/She will be exempted from appearing in the entrance examination.
2 The individual should be a regular employee of the institute and should have rendered a minimum of two years of continuous service at the institute.
3 The individual should have a minimum of 5 years of active service left in the institute at the time of application.
4 The medical faculty member should have at least 3 original research publications (not case reports) during the last three years immediately preceding the date of his/her application either as a first author or as a communicating author in a peer-reviewed journal.
5 The candidate will be considered as an In-service candidate provided that the Head of the Department should certify that the work of the department will not suffer and no additional staff will be asked for.
6 The candidate seeking admission under this category will have to identify a faculty member in the same department (senior to the candidate) who is willing to be the chief guide of the candidate. The candidate should submit a letter of acceptance/undertaking from the concerned faculty member in this regard.
ii For In-service Non-Medical Candidates
1 The individual should be a regular employee of the institute and should have rendered a minimum of five years of continuous service at the institute.
2 He/She should fulfil all the eligibility criteria for the PhD course, and will appear in the entrance examination and must score a minimum of 50% marks.
3 The individual should have 5 years of active service remaining in the institute.
4 The candidate should have a proven track record of active involvement in research / academic activities of the department. He/she should possess good written and verbal communication skills in the English language to be certified by the HOD/Chief of the Center.
5 The candidate should have at least 3 original research publications (not case reports) during the last three years immediately preceding the date of his/her application either as a first author or as a communicating author in a peer-reviewed journal.
6 The candidate will be considered as an in-service candidate provided that the Head of the Department should certify that the work of the department will not suffer and no additional staff will be asked for. 7. The candidate seeking admission under this category will have to identify a faculty member in the institute who is willing to be the chief guide of the candidate. The candidate should submit a letter of acceptance/undertaking from the concerned faculty member in this regard.
D Eligibility criteria for Transfer for PhD credit in case of relocation
In case of re-location of PhD scholar due to marriage or otherwise, the research period, and research data shall be allowed to be transferred to AIIMS Rishikesh, subject to the condition, that the Research Scholar has either joined as an employee/ on deputation and has cleared entrance exam (Stage I and Stage II) conducted by AIIMS, Rishikesh and is willing to enrol as a full-time PhD Research Scholar. Scholars will give due credit to parent guide and previous Institution for part of the research already done.

RESULTS
Results for Ph.D. Program will be available on the AIIMS Rishikesh website. Results of individual candidates will not be informed on telephone and candidates are advised to check the website from time to time for their results.
DURATION OF COURSE
1 Duration of course for all candidates will commence from the date of joining (provisional registration) to submission of the final thesis to the exam cell for evaluation.
2 PhD courses will be full-time for all external candidates, including those with sponsorship.
3 Minimum Duration: Shall be for a minimum period of 3 years including coursework.
4 Maximum Duration: Shall be for a period of 6 years.
