This came after, allegations were made that MBBS aspirants were using "dubious" EWS certificates for securing their MBBS admission at three government medical colleges.
These three government medical colleges are located in Amritsar, Faridkot, and Patiala and they offer 50 MBBS seats for the EWS candidates.
According to the existing rules candidates deemed to be eligible under the EWS category must be from a family with an income less than Rs 8 lakh per annum. The district administration issues the EWS certificates after verifying the annual income and landholding in the name of the candidate's parents.
