'Don't want to do MBBS', Student with 99.9 percentile in NEET commits suicide hours before joining AIIMS Gorakhpur

Suicide
Nawargaon: In a tragic incident, a 19-year-old with 99.9 percentile in NEET 2025 committed suicide hours before joining MBBS course. The student reportedly did not want to become a doctor and wanted to pursue a business.
Speaking to PTI, police officials informed, "A 19-year-old youth who had cleared the NEET allegedly ended his life in the district on Tuesday with his suicide note stating that he did not want to study medicine."
The deceased was identified as a resident of Nawargaon in Sindewahi taluka in Maharashtra
Anurag, securing 99.99 percentile, had recently cleared the National Eligibility-Entrance Test and secured 1475th rank in the OBC category, and was set to begin his MBBS admission in AIIMS Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The student was found hanging from the ceiling by his family in the early hours.
A suicide note recovered from his room said he did not wish to pursue a career in medicine but wanted to get into business.
“I don’t want to do MBBS. A businessman earns as much as a doctor. I don’t want to go through five years of study and then an MD,” he wrote, reports India today.
The report added that Sindewahi police station in-charge Kanchan Pandey confirmed the recovery of the note, stating, “We received information around 4 am that *** from Nawargaon, had hanged himself in his room. A team rushed to the spot and initiated proceedings. A suicide note has been seized, which indicates that he was unable to handle the pressure of continuing medical studies.”
The report further added that neighbours described him as a bright student from an accomplished family. His sister was the district topper in Class 12 exams last year, and the family was reportedly supportive of his academic pursuits.
Further probe was underway, the official said.
