GMCH 32 begins NEET PG Round 3 Counselling, Check out applications deadline

Chandigarh- After a long wait, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has finally started the process of conducting the third round of state quota counselling for MD/MS courses for the academic session 2024-25.
The third round of state quota counselling for MD/MS courses for 2024-25 was delayed due to legal proceedings. Hence, it will finally be held for 35 seats as per the recent Supreme Court verdict and directions of the Chandigarh administration.
In this regard, a notice has been issued by the Director Principal of GMCH stating that all the remaining seats of the UT State quota will now be filled through the institutional preference pool. These admissions will be based on the National Eligibility and Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024 rank of the candidates.
The notice further states that the actual conduct of counselling is subject to final permission from the National Medical Commission (NMC) and Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). On this, the college has submitted the request for necessary approval and will proceed after getting the green signal from the central authorities.
According to a TribuneIndia media news report, the college has opened the application window which will close on April 14, for candidates who have become eligible after the recent reduction in the qualifying percentile by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The board had reduced the eligibility to the 5th percentile, allowing a new group of candidates to participate in this counselling round.
Hence, candidates who qualify under the new percentile range can submit their applications online through the GMCH website. However, those who had applied earlier and now meet the revised eligibility criteria need not apply again.
After the conclusion of the third round of counselling, GMCH will also conduct a stray vacancy round to fill any remaining seats. Upon this, a separate application process for the stray round will be hosted on the official website of the college.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that Clarifying on the domicile-based reservations in postgraduate medical admissions, the Supreme Court directed the Government Medical College and Hospital at Sector 32 (GMCH-32) to conduct the third round of NEET PG counselling, which was on halt after the Supreme Court's January 2025 order barring domicile-based reservations in PG medical admissions under the State quota.
After asking the institute what clarification was required in the January 2025 verdict, the top court bench made it clear that there would be no domicile State quota and admissions would be based on 50 per cent all India and 50 percent Institutional (IP) quota.
