Ludhiana's ESIC medical college with 50 MBBS seats to begin admissions this academic year

Ludhiana- In a major step to boost healthcare and medical education in Ludhiana, the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital is soon going to start an ESI Medical College from this session.
As per the Tribune report, the college is expected to start from August-September of the 2025-26 session.
ESI Medical College will admit a total of 50 students in the first batch, as per the guidelines of the National Medical Commission (NMC),
The counselling of students will begin in the coming two weeks
The ESI Medical College will be the first medical college and hospital built by the central government in Ludhiana. Currently, only Patiala, Amritsar and Faridkot of Punjab has the state government medical colleges.
Meanwhile, the hospital has currently completed other projects, including setting up a laboratory, lecture hall, classrooms etc for medical students admitted this session. To provide a permanent location for the college campus and hostel, ESIC officials are in touch with the district administration to provide land and a piece of land on Jalandhar bypass was shown but since the land was disputed, it could not be finalised as it did not fulfil the NMC norms either.
Speaking to the Tribune in this regard, ESIC Hospital Dean and Professor Inder Pawar said “We will start with the college and a separate building and two floors are designated to hold classes for the first batch. As far as the hostel facilities are concerned, the hospital has tied up with the BSNL in BRS Nagar for accommodating their students, who would be coming from different parts of the country”.
Along with this, Aparajita D'Souza, Medical Superintendent of ESI Hospital said that this medical college will prove to be very helpful for students coming from different backgrounds as they will have to pay nominal government fees for the entire study. Faculty is being arranged by the central government and the recruitment of required faculty will be completed before the classes start.
