MBBS admission fraud at AIIMS Bhopal: UP student forged NEET rank, arrested

Bhopal: A medical student from Uttar Pradesh was recently arrested for allegedly attempting to secure MBBS admission to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, with a fake allotment letter.
The accused was arrested after the AIIMS officials discovered that there were discrepancies while conducting the document verification.
After a complaint was filed by an Assistant Clerk at the Registrar's office, Prashant Kumar Mishra, the accused was booked for charges of cheating and forgery, arrested, and subsequently sent to jail.
As per the latest media report by Bhaskar, the Bag Sewaniya police station TI Amit Soni informed that the accused hails from Kishanpur village in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The 22-year-old student completed his higher secondary education in 2021 and aspired to become a doctor. However, despite repeated attempts in the National Eligibility-Entrance Test (NEET) between 2021 and 2024, he failed to secure a qualifying rank.
The student, who was under pressure from his family and was frustrated by continuous failures, decided to forge the documents to gain entry into AIIMS. According to officials, the accused copied his friend's original allotment letter, which was downloaded from social media, and edited it using Adobe Photoshop, a photo editing tool. Thereafter, he changed the roll number, marks and ranks, and replaced the photo and name with his own.
Bhaskar has reported that the accused student fabricated a score of 630 marks in the NEET exam and an All-India Rank of 284, even though the actual candidate, holding the same rank, had already taken admission at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Reportedly, the forged letter was designed so meticulously that even the fonts and official letter style closely resembled the original.
Following this, on August 25, 2025, the student arrived in Bhopal from Mumbai and submitted the documents at the registrar's office. However, the officials grew suspicious after noticing inconsistencies in his responses during questioning. Therefore, to ensure that he could not escape, the accused was kept aside in a separate room while verification was carried out.
Ultimately, during the inquiry, it was revealed that the roll number and the rank cited by him belonged to another candidate already enrolled at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Immediately, the matter was reported to Bag Sewaniya police station. Following this, the accused was booked and arrested.
