MBBS aspirant cheated of Rs 20 lakh on pretext of admission in Prayagraj medical college

Noida: A medical aspirant has been cheated of Rs 20 lakh by a group of 6 people operating from a Noida-based office who promised to facilitate MBBS admission in a government medical college in Prayagraj.

The victim has been identified as a resident of Shanti Kunj in Lucknow. In her complaint, the victim mentioned that her father received a phone call from a woman who suggested that she can help the aspirant secure a medical admission and gave him the contact of another person. The person met the student's father in an office and convinced him that they can arrange an MBBS seat for his daughter in exchange for Rs 25 Lakhs.

Elaborating on the scam, the medical aspirant told Hindustan Times, "The woman gave the number of one person to my father. He called my father to an office in Sector 62 and introduced him to others. They promised to facilitate my admission in a government medical college in Prayagraj for Rs 25 lakh."

According to the daily, the victim informed that the accused arranged a fake test and counselling session to convince the student of the authenticity of the procedure and took Rs 20 lakh from her. The culprits also handed over the seat allotment letter to the victim on January 21st.

The student was supposed to report to the college in February but when she visited the said college, she was shocked to know that no such letter had been issued by the college. After that when she confronted the accused, they claimed that there had been some technical glitch and her admission got cancelled. However, they did not provide any refund and changed their mobile numbers instead.

The victim could not establish any kind of connection with them thereafter. Realizing that they have been cheated, the medical student immediately approached the police at Sector 58 and registered a complaint of fraud against the offenders.

According to the daily, Anil Kumar, station house officer at Sector 58 police station, stated that a case has been registered against the suspects under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.

The suspects of this case are allegedly a part of a notorious gang who used to cheat medical aspirants on the pretext of granting them medical admission.

Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that two offenders accused of extorting money from medical aspirants on the pretext of granting MBBS seats had surrendered themselves in courts in Kanpur and Mahoba.

"We are investigating the matter and the suspects on the run will be arrested soon," station house officer, Kumar stated.
