MCC tells medical colleges to verify NEET PG counselling 2026 seat matrix, report discrepancies, details

New Delhi: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has directed all participating medical colleges, institutes and hospitals to carefully verify the seat matrix for the National Eligibility and Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET PG) counselling for the academic year 2026 and report any discrepancies before the completion of the Round 1 choice-filling schedule.
In a notice, the MCC, functioning under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, asked participating institutions to ensure that the number of postgraduate medical seats listed against each course is accurate.
The notice has been issued as part of the preparations for the first round of postgraduate medical counselling.
According to the official notice, all participating institutions are required to review their respective seat matrices to verify that the number of seats available in each postgraduate medical course has been correctly reflected.
The MCC stated:
"All participating institutes/colleges/hospitals are advised to verify the seat matrix carefully to ensure the correctness of the number of seats available in each PG course at their respective institutions."
The direction places emphasis on ensuring that the published seat information corresponds with the actual course-wise availability at participating institutions.
The verification exercise is particularly relevant for candidates preparing to select colleges and specialities during the counselling process, as the seat matrix provides information about the postgraduate courses and seats available for allotment.
The MCC has also instructed institutions to bring any errors or inconsistencies in the seat matrix to its attention within the specified period.
The notice clearly states:
"Any discrepancy observed in the seat matrix must be brought to the notice of MCC before the completion of the Round 1 choice-filling schedule for PG Counselling 2026."
This means that participating colleges and hospitals must complete their verification and communicate any identified discrepancies before the Round 1 choice-filling process concludes.
