NEET PG 2024: Telangana Doctors Seek AIQ Resignation Deadline Extension
Hyderabad: The postgraduate medical aspirants in Telangana, who are facing a dilemma regarding their future due to the pending National Eligibility-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) counselling for the State quota seats, have urged the authorities to extend the resignation period for the All India Quota (AIQ) Rounds 2 and 3 in the State.
The medicos moved the authorities including the State Health Minister, Indian Medical Association (IMA), and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS)
Until now, the State has published only the final merit list and opened the web options. However, there is still no clarity on the first round of State counselling.
Therefore, the PG aspirants in the State are in doubt about whether to resign from their AIQ seats. While State is yet to start its first round of counselling, the resignation period for AIQ round 2 ended on December 30.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported how more than 8,000 PG medical aspirants in Telangana were facing uncertainty regarding their future with the delay in NEET PG Counselling process since KNRUHS had not released its merit list.
Normally, AIQ and State counselling processes run together and due to this, the students get a chance to make well-informed choices. However, since the State counselling has been delayed, the synchronisation has been disrupted. Therefore, the PG medical aspirants are unaware of their rankings even though they registered for the State counselling weeks ago.

Amidst such uncertainties regarding their future, the aspirants have written to NMC, Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and explained that those who were allotted seats in AIQ round 1 and 2 and joined colleges were uncertain about whether to resign from their seats as they had no way of knowing the status of State counselling seats. Due to this, they could not make informed decisions.
Explaining their situation, one of the aspirants told the New Indian Express, "There has been a loss of time, money, and resources, leaving us in an agonising situation. Those who opted for seats in AIQ have been forced to join colleges far from their hometowns, a decision imposed upon us. We are feeling helpless but are still urging the government to delay the resignation deadline for AIQ round 2 and start the first round of state counselling immediately."
They also cited examples of other States, such as Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, where the resignation period for AIQ round 1 was extended by three days. The aspirants contended that the authorities should grant them similar consideration.
Writing to the authorities, the PG medical aspirants in the State have requested to allow them to resign from AIQ seats after the Telangana State Round 1 results or the Supreme Court hearing on January 8 regarding the issue of local quota.
Recently, the PG medical aspirants from Kerala had also urged MCC to postpone the third round of AIQ counselling for the NEET PG examination, citing delays in completion of the second round of State-level counselling in several States.
