NMC asks universities to inform on MBBS internship completion date of 2018 batch
New Delhi: Considering that the pandemic affected the schedule for admission and completion of MBBS courses, including the mandatory internship, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now asked the medical universities to submit details regarding the Internship completion date of 2018 batch MBBS students.
Informing the medical universities that the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has asked them to submit the details, NMC has provided the link to the Google Form and asked the medical and health universities across the country to fill the form by 25.12.2023.
The MBBS students from the 2018 batch are scheduled to appear for the postgraduate medical entrance examination i.e. the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) examination next year in 2024.
To be eligible to appear in the NEET PG exam, the MBBS students are required to complete the mandatory internship of one year before the PG entrance exam.
However, the pandemic period affected the schedule of the admission and completion of MBBS courses. Taking note of the same, the Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has now written to the Registrar of all Health/Medical Universities.
"Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the time schedule for admission and completion of course including internship has been affected. Hence, to assess the completion of internship of MBBS students of 2018 batch in order to conduct NEET PG-2024, MCC has requested all the Universities to fill in the Google Form as per link provided in the notice below given below latest by 25.12.2023, positively," NMC PG Board mentioned on 21.12.2023.
Along with the circular, NMC has also shared the link to the Google Form, which is as follows:

NMC has sought the following details in the Google Form:
Name of the University with complete address indicating the name of State/UT, name of the Official providing the information, mobile number of the official, E-mail of the official submitting the details etc. are required in the Google Form.
Apart from these, the details regarding the approximate number of 2018 MBBS batch doing internship after passing the final Main Examination (those who passed in the supplementary examination should not be added), and the internship completion date of the 2018 batch.
This year, thousands of NEET PG aspirants were initially termed ineligible for NEET PG 2023 as they were unable to fulfill the eligibility criteria of completing the MBBS internship within March 31.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that after considering numerous representations from students seeking extension of MBBS Internship deadline and postponement of NEET PG exam, the Health Ministry finally came to the aid of the NEET PG and NEET MDS 2023 aspirants and extended the last date of completion of the MBBS internship to August 11 and BDS internship to June 30.
