RIMS Ranchi cancels MBBS admission after probe finds student used fake caste certificate

MBBS Admission Cancelled
Ranchi: A first-year student who gained admission at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, for the 2025-26 session, has lost her medical seat after an internal inquiry of the institute confirmed that she used a fake Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate to secure admission.
According to TOI report, based on the inquiry findings, the RIMS administration initially suspended her after doubts arose about her caste certificate. However, after completing a detailed investigation into the matter, the institute permanently cancelled her enrolment on December 1, 2025.
The matter came to notice during RIMS’ routine document verification of medical students. Although the student's NEET-UG 2025 admit and score card showed her under the OBC-NCL category, she had taken admission in the SC quota through the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) where she secured Rank 1 in the reserved list.

When RIMS authorities asked her to submit her original NEET admit card for verification, she claimed it was lost and failed to provide any copy. This raised suspicion, and the institute ordered a detailed probe into her caste certificate on October 13, 2025.
During the investigation, the institute formally approached the JCECE Board and the circle officer of Giridih. Surprisingly, the report of the Giridih circle officer revealed several discrepancies.
It was revealed that the student was issued the SC certificate based on lineage linked to a Khatiyan landholder named Bhairo Chamar. However, inquiries with the actual descendants of Bhairo Chamar confirmed that the student had no connection with the Chamar family. The genealogy she provided also did not match the genuine family lineage.
In addition to this, the JCECE Board also submitted its own report on November 19. Based on these findings, RIMS suspended her on November 20 and issued a show-cause notice to her on November 21 and formed a committee to review the entire case.
After going through all the documents and reports, the committee concluded that the SC certificate was obtained fraudulently and recommended cancellation of her admission. Following this, RIMS officially cancelled her admission on December 1, 2025.
Legal experts told TOI, "Any admission obtained through a forged certificate is considered “void ab initio”, meaning invalid from the very beginning. The Supreme Court has consistently maintained that acts committed through deceit are automatically nullified under the principle “fraud vitiates all solemn acts”. Appearing for NEET under the OBC-NCL category but occupying a seat reserved for SC candidates amounts to depriving a genuine SC applicant of his or her rightful opportunity, a serious constitutional violation."
After revoking Kajal’s admission, RIMS will now inform the JCECE Board to allot the vacant seat to the next eligible SC candidate and will notify the National Medical Commission (NMC) to remove her name from its enrolment records.
Speaking on the issue, Rims director Dr Raj Kumar, said, "The investigation report clearly stated that the certificate was obtained by concealing facts and providing false ancestral information. Rims emphasises complete transparency, and any such fraudulent activity will lead to strict action."
