14 new Medical colleges planned in UP, 1400 MBBS seats likely to be added for 2024-25 academic year
Uttar Pradesh- In a move to boost medical education in Uttar Pradesh, the state is planning to add 14 more new medical colleges with the aim of increasing 1400 MBBS seats for the 2024-25 session after being approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
According to HT report, the districts where these new medical colleges are being planned include Kanpur Dehat, Lalitpur, Kaushambi and among others.
The UP Medical Education Department has filed an application with NMC for inspection of campuses across the state. Once permission is approved by NMC, more than 1,400 MBBS seats will be added to the approximately 8,000 seats currently available in the state. Besides, colleges will also get permission to take admission and carry out educational activities for three years after the first inspection.
On this, a senior official of the Medical Education Department while speaking to The Hindustan Times said “Physical verification of the infrastructure on the 14 campuses is expected any time. We have submitted an application and deposited the fee for the same”.
According to HT, Medical Education Department is hoping to get approval from the NMC before the counselling date for admission through NEET is announced. Additionally, there are some colleges which are already allowed to take new admissions before the announcement of counseling date and those colleges can also participate in this process.
On the other hand, the Medical Education Department has also started the process for appointment of faculty members in the proposed colleges and the process of appointment to 50% of faculty posts is also being done including the Principal for the college.
At present, there are a total of 35 medical institutions in the government sector and 30 in the private sector in UP.
