1st-Year MBBS student of Krishna Medical College dies after being pushed off building, accused classmate arrested

Satara: In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old first-year MBBS student of Krishna Medical College, near Karad in Satara district unfortunately died after she was allegedly pushed from the balcony of a third-floor residential building. Her friend who is accused in the matter, is currently in police custody.

According to the police, the accused is also a first-year medical student was arrested after he allegedly pushed her classmate from the Suncity building in Karad’s Malkapur area at night after an argument took place on June 30.

The deceased was a resident of Musahari block in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district and the accused is from Sonipat in Haryana, both from the same year of the MBBS course at the private medical college.

“Both studied together and were in a relationship for the last two years. For the last few days, both have been having some disputes. On June 30, the deceased had come to his flat located at Suncity. Their dispute intensified and he pushed the girl down,” Satara Superintendent of Police Sameer Shaikh told PTI.

“The accused had some bruises on his body and he told us he sustained injuries while coming down from the building. However, we suspect he got bruised after a physical spat with the girl. The deceased’s mother, who is a doctor in Bihar, in her complaint claimed Chikkara used to fight with her daughter and object to her talking to male collegemates,” the SP said.

The accused used to physically abuse her daughter, who had confided about this to her mother, the official said quoting the complaint.

“Her mother had advised her to stay away from him. But the deceased had told her he pursued her when she tried to stay away from him. We have arrested Chikkara for murder,” the SP said.

As per a TOI news report, her mother alleged in her police complaint that the accused was troubling her daughter. She said she learnt about this in a conversation with her daughter on the phone. She also said that the accused had addiction issues and suspected her daughter of dating someone else.

In her complaint, she claimed that she got a call from the accused medico's mother, who informed her that the student had fallen and had suffered minor injuries. However, she learnt from a senior employee that her daughter was seriously injured and she must come down to Karad as soon as possible. After reaching, she found her daughter dead with a severe head injury and bleeding from her nose and ears at a hospital run by the private medical college.

Previously, Sameer Shaikh, the Satara superintendent of police, told TOI, "Both knew each other. The student had come to the accused apartment, where they had an altercation. Our initial inquiry found that he pushed her from his balcony, which led to her death. We have arrested the accused and he will be produced before the court on Friday."

Following this, a case was registered under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita against the accused and he was arrested accordingly. An investigation is underway to identify more people involved in the case if found any.
