216 dental colleges fail to Upload Anti Ragging Reports, DCI Issues notice

Delhi: The Dental Council of India (DCI) issued notification for 216 dental colleges regarding uploading anti-ragging reports on the website.

As per the notice, dental colleges across India will have to upload anti-ragging reports on the DCI website every year as per sections 12.1 & 12.2 of DCI Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging 2009 up to 31st October and 30th April, respectively. But as per data available on the DCI website, 216 dental colleges have not uploaded the requisite anti-ragging report on the DCI website for different periods from October 2018 to April 2022 despite issuing several reminders in this regard.

DCI has directed the colleges to immediately upload the anti-ragging report on its website for the different period from October 2018 to April 2022, falling which the name of defaulting dental colleges will be placed before the Executive Committee of DC1 for the necessary action in the matter.

Further, the list/status of 215 Dental Colleges that have not uploaded the anti-ragging report on the DC1 website for different periods from October 2018 to April 2022 has been uploaded on DCI's website below the Anti-Ragging Section and Archive Section. The detailed list is enclosed in the notice below.

It is the responsibility of all institutions to ensure that no ragging occurs in their dental institution. Measures taken to curb it may be reviewed as DCI Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Dental Colleges, 2009. As per section 11.3 of the regulations above, the authorities/Management (Trust, Societies, etc.) of the institution, particularly the Head of the institution, shall be responsible for ensuring that no incident of ragging takes place in the institution. In case any ragging incident occurs, the Management/Head shall take prompt and appropriate action against the person(s) whose dereliction of duty lead to the incident. In turn, the authority designated to appoint the Head shall take prompt and appropriate action against the Head.

The Dental Council of India has been constituted by an Act of Parliament to regulate the profession of dentistry and also to maintain the highest standards of dental education in the country. It is the statutory and bounden duty of the DCI to take such steps which are required to be taken to maintain the highest standards of dental education in the country.

Any dental qualification granted by any person/authority/institution is not valid unless and until it is according to the norms of the DCI Act and Regulations made there-under, the respective provisions of Sections 10,10A and 10B of the Dentists Act, 1948.
